The Sudan Nettes’ varsity softball team won their season-opener on Saturday over the Dimmitt Bobbies, 23-5, in Sudan to open their 2024 season.
With the win, the Nettes improve to 1-0 overall on the season.
Both teams scratched two runs across in the first inning, but the Nettes kept the Bobbies scoreless in the top of the second inning, while they pushed seven runs across in the bottom half of the side to take a, 9-2, lead into the third inning.
Dimmitt was unable to push any runs across in the top half of the inning, while Sudan added three more runs to make the score, 12-2, going to the fourth inning.
Sudan’s offense erupted for 11 runs in the bottom of the fourth, making the score, 23-2, going into the fifth inning. In the top of the fifth, Dimmitt was able to push three runs across, but it was not enough, as Sudan picked up the run-rule victory, 23-5.
Angela Thorn pitch .2 innings for the Nettes, giving up two hits, two walks and three runs, two earned. Blessy Montes went four innings 4.1 innings giving up two runs and four hits, while earning six strikeouts.
At the plate, Haylee Toscano tallied four hits, three RBI’s and a triple, while Thorn had three hits, one triple and three RBI’s, and Trinity Love added two RBI’s and a homerun.
Montes had two hits and two RBI’s, while Erica Herrera tallied one hit and two RBI’s and Laynee Jennings finished with three hits including one double and two RBI’s.
The Nettes were at Trinity Christian on Tuesday. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season next Tuesday when they host the Morton Maidens.
First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
