The Springlake-Earth Lady Wolverines saw their season come to an end, after dropping a tight game to the Wildorado Lady Mustangs, 55-40, at Bushland High School on Tuesday in the Class 1A Bi-district round of the playoffs.
Springlake-Earth senior, Emma Samaron, dropped in a lay-up to open the contest, off of an assist from senior, Taytum Goodman, but Reyna Segovia hit Ryleigh Montgomery for a lay-up on the backdoor cut to tie the game, 2-2, with just over six minutes remaining in the opening quarter. Samaron responded quickly with a lay-up in transition, drawing an and-one foul on the play. She missed the free throw, leaving the score, 4-2, with 5:57 remaining in the first quarter.
Wildorado answered with a bucket to tie the game, but it was short- lived, as Goodman responded with a lay-up in transition to make the score, 6-4. Jami Perkins was fouled on an attempt by Natalie Rosalez and made oneof- two shots from the line, cutting the lead to, 6-5. Perkins followed it up with a put-back to put the Lady Mustangs in front, 7-6, but the Lady Wolverines fired right back, as Samaron knocked down a jumper from the right wing, off of an assist from Goodman, making the score, 8-7, in favor of the Lady Wolverines.
Jami Perkins dropped in a layup for Wildorado and Segovia followed it up with back-to-back layups to put them in front, 14-10, as the Lady Mustangs called for a 30-second time out with 1:34 to play in the quarter. Out of the break, Aryca Ibarra drained a three from the left elbow to tie the game, 1313, and DD Delgado buried a three from the right elbow off an assist from Goodman, in the closing seconds of the quarter to put Springlake-Earth in front, 16-13, heading into quarter number two.
Jovi Perkins was fouled on an attempt by Ibarra to open the second frame; she converted both shots from the line to cut the lead to one point, but on the other end, Ibarra knocked down a jumper from the right elbow, making the score, 18-15, with 6:50 to play in the first half. Jami Perkins answered with a lay-up to make it a one- point game, 18- 17, as Springlake-Earth took a time out with 4:55 to play in the half.
Out of the break, Samaron dropped in a lay-up off of an assist from Ibarra, but Jami Perkins nailed a three from the left elbow to knot the game, 20-20. With 3:26 remaining in the first half, Samaron was fouled on an attempt by Segovia and split the attempts at the line, before draining a three off of the assist from Goodman to stretch their lead to, 24-20.
Goodman followed it up with a lay-up off of a steal, as Wildorado took a time out with 2:18 left to play in the half, trailing, 26-20. Out of the break, Jami Perkins dropped in a fast-break lay-up off of a turnover by Hannah Alvarez and on their next possession, Jaelynn Daniels was fouled on an attempt by Ibarra, earning a trip to the line. She made one-of-two shots from the line, trimming the lead to, 2623. With time winding down in the half, Jami Perkins dropped in a layup off of an assist from Jovi Perkins to make it a one-point game, 26-25, going into the locker room at halftime.
Jami Perkins opened the second half with a lay-up to put the Lady Mustangs in front, 27-26, but it was short-lived, as Goodman fired back with a three from the left elbow to reclaim the lead for Springlake-Earth, 29-27. With under six minutes to play in the third quarter, Jami Perkins dropped in a lay-up off of an assist from Jovi Perkins to tie the game, 29-29, and she followed it up with a lay-up off of a steal to put the Lady Mustangs back in front, 31-29.
Wildorado took a time out with 2:03 left to play in the quarter and out of the break, Morgan Haschke buried a three from the left wing to make the score, 34-29, in favor of Wildorado. Springlake-Earth called for a time out to talk things over with 1:24 left to play and out of the break, Jovi Perkins drove in for a lay-up, and Jami Perkins followed it up with a lay-up of her own, drawing an and-one foul on the play. She missed the free throw to leaving the score, 38-29, as the third quarter came to a close.
Goodman opened the fourth quarter with a lay-up, drawing an and-one foul on Taylor Albracht; she converted the free throw to cut the lead to, 38-32, but on the other end, Albracht was fouled on an attempt by Rosalez. She made one-of-two shots from the line to push their lead to, 39-32, with just under seven minutes remaining in the contest.
Jovi Perkins drained a three from the right elbow off of the assist form Jami Perkins and on their next possession, Jami Perkins was fouled on a put-back attempt by Delgado. She made one-of-two shots from the line to push their lead to, 43-32. With just over five minutes remaining, Jami Perkins picked up a steal and was fouled on the shot attempt by Delgado; this time she sank both free throws, stretching their lead to, 4532.
Jovi Perkins knocked down a short- jumper from the left elbow, but on the other end, Goodman was fouled on an attempt by Jovi Perkins; she converted both free throws, trimming the lead to, 4734, with 4:22 left to play. On their next possession, Samaron was fouled on the floor and split the free throws, trimming the lead to, 47-35. Jovi Perkins split a pair of free throws for Wildorado, as Delgado fouled out of the contest and on the defensive end, Jami Perkins took a charge on Samaron with 3:19 left to play.
Jami Perkins was fouled on the floor by Alvarez and she converted both free throws, extending their lead to, 50-35. Samaron was fouled on an attempt and sank both shots from the line to cut the lead to, 13, but Wildorado answered with a quick lay-up to push the lead back out to, 37-52, with 2:15 remaining. Eva Albracht split a pair of free throws after being fouled on the floor by Samaron, but with under a minute to play, Samaron answered with a three from the right elbow off of the assist from Goodman, making the score, 53-40. Jovi Perkins would knock down a pair of free throws to close out the game, as the Lady Wolverines fell to Wildorado, 5540.
Samaron led the Lady Wolverines in scoring with 22 points, while Goodman joined her in double-figures scoring with 12 points. Ibarra and and Delgado each finished with three points in the contest.
