Lady Cats move to 2-0 in district play

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity basketball team stayed unbeaten in district play on Friday with a home victory over Dimmitt, 55-32.

With the win, the Lady Cats improve to 11-5 overall, 2-0 in district play.

The Lady Cats got out to a quick start, taking a, 12-5, lead through one quarter of play. The Lady cats outscored the Bobbies, 17-8, in the second frame to take a, 29-13, lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Lady Cats kept it going in the second half with a 17-point third quarter, pushing their lead to, 4620. Dimmitt outscored the Lady Cats, 12-9, in the final frame, but it was not enough to overcome the early deficit, as Littlefield took the contest, 55-32.

Kennadi Hanlin leed the Lady Cats in scoring with 16 points, to go along with six steals, four assists and one rebound, while Arianna Cruz joined her in doublefigures scoring with 14 points, four steals, three assists and one rebound, and Cali Saldana tallied 11 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Marysa Saenz contributed seven points, seven rebounds, two steals, one assist and one block, while Ari Castillo chipped in four points, seven rebounds, four blocks, three steals and two assists, and Nevaeh Esquibel added three points and two rebounds. Amiah Elizondo finished with five rebounds in the contest.

The Lady Cats traveled to Brownfield on Tuesday to take on the Lady Cubs in their last game before the winter break. Results were not available at press time. They will host the Wildcat Classic Dec. 27th-29th brackets will be published in the Christmas Eve edition of the Leader-News.
