The Springlake-Earth Lady Wolverines’ varsity basketball team finished fourth at the 2023 Way Out West Basketball Tournament in Whiteface last weekend, falling to Silverton, 53-49, in the third-place game on Saturday.
With the loss, the Lady Wolverines fall to 2-5 overall on the year.
In their tournament-opener on Thursday against Lockney, the Lady Wolverines defeated the Lady Horns, 39-25.
They were led by Emma Samaron, who tallied 17 points, and Taytum Goodman, who finished with 16 points. Natalie Rosalez chipped in four points, whileAryca Ibarra contributed two points.
In game two on Thursday, they squared off against the host Whiteface Lady Lopes, falling, 65-42.
In this contest, Goodman led the way with 19 points, while Samaron joined her in double figures scoring with 15 points. Jessica Mendoza chipped in six points, while Ibarra finished with two points.
On Friday, the Lady Wolverines got back in the win column with a, 69-51, victory over the Friona Squaws.
Goodman led the way for the Lady Wolverines with 31 points, while Samaron tallied 18 points and Rosalez finished with 10 points. Aabriella Villanueva chipped in six points, while Ibarra finished with five points.
On Saturday, the Lady Wolverines faced off against the Silverton Lady Owls for third-place. The Lady Wolverines came up just short, 53-49.
Goodman led the team in scoring with 19 points, while being joined in double-figures scoring by Samaron who added 16 points. DD Delgado tallied nine points, while Ibarra added three points and Villanueva finished with two points.
