WIldcats cruise past post, 89-16

The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity basketball team cruised past the Post Antelopes on Monday afternoon on the road, 89-16.

With the win, the Wildcats improve to 3-0 overall on the season.

The Wildcats wasted no time getting started in the opening quarter, as Ryan Williams dropped in a floater in the lane and MJ Randle followed it up with a three from the left elbow off of a steal to put them in front, 5-0, with 7:11 to play in the first quarter. Jeremiah Trevino got to the cup for a layup off of the assist from Ryan Williams, drawing an and-one foul on Tristan Gomez. He converted the free throw to stretch the lead to, 80.

With 5:52 to play in the quarter, Chip Green knocked down a three from the left wing off of the inbound pass from Ryan Williams and he followed it up with a three from the left wing off of the assist from Randle, pushing their lead to, 14-0. Green would scored a lay-up off of a steal, and on the next play, Randle picked up a steal, getting it ahead to Green, who dished the outlet pass down court to Omar Martinez, who finished off the break with a lay-up, making the score, 18-0, with 4:25 to play in the quarter.

Kam McCarty was fouled on a put-back attempt off of a miss by Jayden Barrio and he converted both free throws, stretching their lead to, 20-0. with 2:23 remaining in the quarter, Sir Pratt pushed the outlet pass down court to Barrio, who dropped in a lay-up, drawing an and-one foul on the play. He converted the free throw to make the score, 23-0.

With 1:48 remaining in the first quarter, McCarty was fouled on the floor by Jamarion Reed, earning a trip to the line. He made oneof- two shots at the line, but two plays later, the Antelopes drew a shooting foul on Pratt, earning a trip to the line. They converted both free throws, trimming the lead to, 24-2. With under a minute to play in the quarter, Barrio found Pratt for a lay-up in transition and on the next play, a steal by Barrio led to a two- hand slam fromMcCarty on the fast-break, pushing their lead to, 28-2.

With time winding down in the first quarter, McCarty dropped in a lay-up off of a steal to make the score, 30-2, as the first quarter came to a close.

Ja’Den Williams dropped in a lay-up off of the assist from Ryan Williams to open up the second frame and Ryan Williams followed it up with an alley-oop pass to Martinez for a lay-up, pushing their lead to, 34-2, with 7:17 to play in the first half. Jacob McClellan dropped in a lay-up for Post to trim the lead to, 34-4, but Ja’Den Williams dished a pass across the lane to Martinez for a lay-up, and Ryan Williams followed it up with an easy lay-up on the fast-break, off of the outlet pass from Ja’Den Williams, making the score, 38-4.

Post took a time out with 6:29 to play in the first half, and out of the break, Martinez dropped in a layup off of the assist from Green, stretching their lead to, 40-4. Ryan Williams tossed an outlet pass down court to Randle for a fastbreak lay-up and Randle followed it up on the next play with an outlet pass to Ryan Williams for an easy lay-up on the break, extending their lead to, 44-4, with 4:15 remaining in the second frame.

With 3:38 to play in the half, Randle was fouled on an attempt by Gomez and made one-of-two shots at the line and Trevino followed it up with a three from the left wing, off of the assist from McCarty making the score, 48-4. Trevino dropped in a lay-up, drawing an and-one foul on the play. He converted the free throw, making the score, 51-4, with just under two minutes remaining in the half.

Randle buried a three from the right elbow and Pratt knocked down a jump hook in the lane off of the inbound pass under the basket fromRandle, as Littlefield took a commanding, 56-4, lead into the locker room at halftime.

Randle bounced a pass through traffic to Trevino for a lay-up to open the second half and Ryan Williams dropped in a fast-break lay-up off of a steal, drawing an and-one foul on Gomez. He missed the free throw, leaving the score, 60-4, with 7:31 remaining in the quarter. McClellan drained a three from the left elbow for Post, but Randle answered with a three of his own from the top of the key and Green followed it up with a three from the right elbow off of the assist from Trevino, pushing their leda to, 66-7, with 6:20 to play in the quarter.

Martinez drove the lane, dumping the ball off to Trevino for a lay-up, and Martinez followed it up with back-to-back lay-ups, making the score, 72-7, with 4:31 to play in the third quarter. McCarty buried a three from the top of the key, but McClellan answered with a lay-up, trimming the lead to, 75-9. With under two minutes to play in the quarter, Barrio pulled up from the free-throw line for a jumper and McCarty followed it up with a lay-up, stretching the lead to, 79-9. Green dropped in a lay-up off of the assist from Ja’Den Williams to close out the third quarter with Littlefield in front, 81-9.

Ryan Williams dropped in a floater in the lane off of the assist from Trevino to open the fourth quarter and Post took a time out with 6:35 to play in the game. Out of the break, Martinez dropped in a lay-up off of the inbound pass from Ryan Williams under the basket and Trevino followed it up with a lay-up off of the assist from Ryan Williams, making the score, 87-9, with just under three minutes to play in the game.

Martinez dropped in a lay-up off of the assist from Barrio, but on the other end, Gomez was fouled on an attempt by Barrio, earning a trip to the line. He made the first shot and missed the second, but Post dropped in the put-back, trimming the lead to, 89-12. The Antelopes dropped in back-to-back lay-ups off of steals to close out the game, as Littlefield took the contest, 89-16.

Martinez led the Wildcats in scoring with 16 points, to go along with two rebounds, one assist and one steal, while Trevino tallied 15 points, four steals and three assists. Green chipped in 13 points, six steals, three rebounds and two assists, while Randle contributed 12 points, six assists, five steals and two rebounds.

McCarty tallied 12 points, four rebounds, three steals,two assists and one block, while Ryan Williams chipped in 10 points, eight assists, five steals and two rebounds, and Barrio added five points, three rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block. Pratt tallied four points, two rebounds, one steal and one block, and Ja’Den Williams finished with two points, four assists, two steals and two rebounds.

The Wildcats will continue their season on Tuesday, Nov. 28th when they take on Idalou at home.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
