The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team wrapped up their regular season on Tuesday, falling on the road to the Shallowater Fillies, 0-3.
With the loss, the Lady Cats close out the regular season with a mark of 18-13 overall, 4-6 in district play.
Carli Buckley’s kill attempt to open set one sailed out of bounds, but she followed it up with a hit that tipped the net for a kill to tie the set, 1-1. Jaycee Benton served up an ace in front of Madi Brown, but Buckley, again, sent a hit sailing out of bounds, keeping the set tied, 22. Buckley would respond, delivered a soft kill just over the block attempt of Julie Bownds and Amiah Elizondo, making the score, 2-3, but the Fillies couldn’t capitalize, as Riley Klatt’s serve fell short of the net to tie the set once more, 3-3.
Emma Clawson sent a kill into the net, and Bownds followed it up with a hit that tipped the net for a kill to put the Lady Cats in front, 5-3. The Fillies sent a kill past Lyric Rios, but their next hit sailed out of bounds, making the score, 6-4. Two plays later, the Fillies would tie the set, after a hit from Myli Hernandez landed out of bounds, making the score, 6-6.
A hit from Kennadi Hanlin landed just out of bounds for a Shallowater point, and Tatum Rentfro delivered a kill through the block attempt of Hernandez and Hanlin, pushing their lead to, 6-8. Hernandez would respond with a kill off of the block attempt by Clawson, but a tip on the next play by Shallowater fell in for a point to make the score, 7-9.
Rentfro delivered a kill off of the block attempt by Hernandez, but Anaby Fleming sent a hit into the net, making the score, 8-10. Bri Valdez was called for a double-hit on her set, but the Fillies gave the serve right back to Littlefield, as Grace Barret was called for a double-hit as well, making the score, 9-11. Klatt delivered a kill in the back corner, sparking a three-point rally for the Fillies, before Bownds had a kill blocked by Klatt, but the ball landed out of bounds, trimming the lead to, 10-14.
Shallowater sent a hit into the net, but the Fillies responded on the next play with a kill in the back corner by Klatt, pushing their lead back out to, 11-15. Bownds was blocked by Clawson for a kill, but on the next play, Bownds and Rios teamed up for a block, to cut the lead to, 12-16. Shallowater sent back-to-back hits out of bounds, and Clawson was blocked by Bownds, as the Fillies called for a time out with their lead cut to, 15-16.
Out of the break, Clawson delivered a kill off of Cali Saldana, but on the next play Clawson was called for touching the net and the Fillies followed it up with a hit into the net, as Littlefield tied the set, 17-17. Clawson and Rentfro sent back-toback kills sailing out of bounds, before Bownds sent a serve short of the net to make the score, 19-18.
Hanlin sent a hit sailing out of bounds, but on the next play, Rentfro sent a hit into the net, making the score, 20-19. Clawson tipped the net with a hit, but the ball did not make it over, giving the point to Littlefield to stretch their lead to, 21-19. Benton delivered a kill off of Maggie McNeese, but the serve on the next play from Fleming sailed out of bounds, making the score, 22-20.
Shallowater, though, would go on to score the final five points, to take set one, 22-25.
Benton served up an ace off of Hanlin to open set two, but her next serve sailed out of bounds, leaving the score tied, 1-1. A tip by Klatt was hit out of bounds by Valdez on the dig attempt, but Klatt’s serve on the next play fell short of the net, keeping the set tied, 2-2. Bownds sent a hit past Fleming in the corner for a kill, but Buckley delivered a kill off of Bryndle Ray, sparking a three-point rally for Shallowater, pushing their lead to, 3-5.
Bownds had a kill land just inside the back line for a point, but her swing on the next play went into the net, making the score, 4-6. Shallowater served up an ace off of Saldana, sparking a three-point rally, as Littlefield took a time out trailing, 4-9. Out of the break, Rentfro sent a hit into the net and a double-hit was called on the set by Logann Carreon on the next play, trimming the lead to, 6-9.
Littlefield couldn’t capitalize, as Ray was called for a double-hit, giving the serve right back to Shallowater. Fleming served up an ace off of Hanlin and Saldana’s hit on the next play landed out of bounds on the sideline, making the score, 6-12. The Lady Cats would regain the serve two plays later, after Hernandez delivered a kill through the block attempt by Rentfro and Klatt, making the score, 7-13.
Rentfro, though, would answer with a kill in the back corner past Valdez, sparking another threepoint rally for the Fillies, that was ended when Barret sent a serve sailing out of bounds to make the score, 8-16. Buckley had a kill tipped out of bounds by Amiah Elizondo, as Littlefield took a time out trailing, 817.
Klatt sent a kill past Kamryn Jimenez, but on the next play, she was called for touching the net, trimming the lead to, 9-18. Klatt delivered a kill off of the block attempt by Bownds and Hernandez and a save attempt on the next play by Valdez landed short of the net, making the score, 9-20. Klatt followed it up with an ace on the back line, and on the next play, Clawson had a tip blocked by Taryn Golden, but the ball still fell in for a Shallowater point, pushing their lead to, 9-22.
The Fillies sent a hit into the net and Lillie Wells sent a kill sailing out of bounds on the next play to cut the lead to, 11-22, before Buckley delivered a kill past Ray to make the score, 11-23. A hit by Fleming was hit out of bounds by Rios, but on the next play, Carreon was called for a double hit, trimming the lead to, 12-24. Bownds delivered a kill through the block attempt of Wells, but Emie Lusk ended the set with a kill past Hanlin, as Shallowater took the set, 13-25.
Littlefield opened set three in an, 0-3, hole, before Buckley sent a hit into the net, making the score, 1-3. The Lady Cats could not capitalize, as Buckley scored a kill off of Ray, sparking another three-point rally for the Fillies, that ended when Klatt’s serve sailed out of bounds, making the score, 2-6.
Bownds had a kill attempt blocked by Clawson, but Carreon’s serve on the next play fell short of the net, making the score, 3-7. A kill by Clawson was hit out of bounds by Bownds and a tip on the next play from Hernandez was blocked by Rentfro for a kill pushing the lead to, 3-9. The Fillies were called for four hits, after a hit from Rentfro didn’t make it over the net, however, Shallowater responded quickly, as Clawson delivered a kill on the sideline to make the score, 410.
McNeese sent a hit short of the net, but the Fillies were not able to capitalize, as Fleming’s serve fell short of the net, making the score, 5-11. Rentfro sent a kill past Valdez, as Littlefield took a time out trailing the Fillies, 5-12. Out of the break, Hanlin crossed over the line on a save attempt at the net and Elizondo was blocked by Buckley and Klatt for a kill, making the score, 5-14.
Barret sent a serve short of the net, but Benton tipped the net for a kill to push their lead to, 6-15. Valdez got called for a double-hit on her set, but on the next play, Buckley was called for touching the net, making the score, 7-16. Buckley tipped the net for a kill, as Ray couldn’t get to the ball for the dig, but Elizondo answered with a kill off of Buckley to cut the lead to, 817.
Shallowater would close out the set on a, 4-8, scoring run to take set three, 12-25, and the match, 0-3.
The Lady Cats will take on the Bushland Lady Falcons on Monday in Dimmitt in the Class 3A Volleyball Play-offs.
The first set is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
