USDA Announces New World Screwworm Grand Challenge

(Washington, D.C., January 21, 2026) – U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke L. Rollins announced the launch of the New World Screwworm (NWS) Grand Challenge. This funding opportunity marks a pivotal step in USDA’s comprehensive strategy to combat NWS and prevent its northward spread.

Hornets stumble against Hale Center

The Sudan Hornets’ varsity basketball team dropped their road contest to the Hale Center Owls on Friday, 70-35.With the loss, the Hornets fall to 8-13 overall, 1-2 in district play.

LEDC Type ‘B’ holds regular meeting Jan. 15

Texas added 7,300 nonfarm jobs in November to reach a total of 14,321,000 positions. Over the year, the state added 146,300 jobs for an annual nonfarm growth rate of 1.0 percent, outpacing the national growth rate by 0.4 percentage points.
