VIRGINIA MENDEZ

Virginia Mendez, 77, lifelong resident of Littlefield, passed away Friday, Sep. 14, 2018 in Littlefield. Funeral Mass was held Tuesday morning, Sept. 18, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Littlefield with Father Brian Wood officiating. Interment followed at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Rosary was recited Monday evening at Grace Chapel. Arrangements were under the personal care of Hillcrest Funeral Home in Littlefield. She was born July 10, 1941 in Littlefield to Juan and Rafaelita Marquez. Virginia married Ralph Mendez, Sr. in Littlefield. Together they owned and operated the original Tasty Taco for 18 years. She enjoyed camping and fishing. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she was very active in numerous activities, and involved in the Crusistas. Virginia is survived by her two daughters, Debra Tarango and Brenda Brito and husband, Jessie all of Littlefield; three sons, Ralph Mendez, Jr.

Harry Roscoe Thomas, Jr.

Harry Roscoe Thomas, Jr., 93, of Olton, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018, in Olton following a lengthy illness. Graveside services were held Thursday afternoon, Sept. 13, 2018, at Olton Cemetery, with Brother Neely Landrum officiating and under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors. Born on July 16, 1925, in Mobeetie, Texas, Harry was the son of Roscoe and Bert Thomas. He graduated from Olton High School in 1943. He immediately joined the U.S. Navy and served in WWII Pacific theatre. A long time area farmer, Harry also owned and operated Thomas House Moving. He was preceded in death by his parents and his only brother, Drummond Bartlett Thomas. Survivors include his son, Harry Max Thomas of Olton; three daughters, Marge Bell of Hereford, Connie T. Maxwell of Olton and Alice Thomas of Lubbock; nine grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be made to the Runningwater Draw Care Center, P.O. Box 409, Olton, Texas 79064.

Joan Fry Horn

Joan Fry Horn, 87, of Littlefield, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018, in Lubbock. Graveside services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018 at Littlefield Memorial Park with her son, Wendell Horn, officiating. Arrangements were under the personal care of Hillcrest Funeral Home in Littlefield. The family received friends Friday at the funeral home. She was born Jan. 18, 1931 in Shannon, Texas to W.W. and Evelyn Fry. Joan married N.C. Horn on March 13, 1949 in Jacksboro, Texas. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed crafting, as well as was an excellent baker. She worked as the secretary of the Parkview Baptist Church in Littlefield, where she was a member for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, N.C. Horn; a son, Ken Horn; her parents; and a brother, Norman Fry.

Joyce Lowery

Joyce Lowery, 86, of Littlefield, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018. Joyce was born near Springlake. She was her Senior class’s Valedictorian when she graduated from Springlake High School, where she played basketball. She was a Jehovah’s Witnesses, and loved to spend time sharing her Bible-based hope with people in the community. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Debra and Sharla; and two brothers, Carroll and Dwane Jones. She is survived by her husband, Loyd, of 68 years; a daughter, Donna Hartline and husband, James, of Littlefield; two granddaughters, Shawna Jansen and husband, Philip, of Austin, Steffani Cantwell and husband, Andrew of Levelland; a grandson, Toby Hartline and wife, Ashely of Lubbock; four great-granddaughters, Ava, Brynn, Haley, and Hope; a sister, Lynda Brunk of Colorado; and many nieces and nephews.

GEORGE L. BAHLMAN

George L. Bahlman, 99 years and 10 months old, passed away Sept. 10, 2018 at Arbor Grace Wellness Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 13, 2018 at Grace Chapel at Hillcrest Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Littlefield Memorial Park in the Masonic Garden, complete with Masonic Rites performed by Littlefield Masonic Lodge No. 1161. George was born Nov. 3, 1918 in DeWitt, Texas to the late Charles F. Bahlman and Elizabeth Stehle of Winters, Texas. George and his late wife, Ethel Mae Fry, moved to the Bula Community in 1955, where they farmed for over 50 years. He was involved in Lions Club, Boy Scouts and other community activities. He loved to farm, go fishing, and play dominoes. He became a Mason in 1967 and was honored with a 50-year pin as a Mason in 2017. He was a Past Master of Littlefield Lodge No. 1161 AF & AM, and served in many offices. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Bula and in Littlefield.

Concha “Maria” Ojeda, 56, lifelong resident of Littlefield, passed away Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018 at Grace Chapel. Interment will follow in Littlefield Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the personal care of Hillcrest Funeral Home in Littlefield. She was born Dec. 8, 1961 in Chihuahua, Mexico to David and Dora Ojeda. Maria enjoyed sewing and painting, and liked to cook. She was a Christian. She is survived by her mother, Dora Ojeda of Littlefield; two sisters, Espi Duran and Aurora Sanchez, both of Littlefield; five brothers, Alonzo Ojeda and Jamie Ojeda both of Littlefield, David Ojeda, Jr. and Alejandro Ojeda both of Lubbock, and Alvaro Ojeda of McAllen; several nieces and nephews and extended family members. Serving as pallbearers will be David Ojeda, Jr., Alonzo Ojeda, Alvaro Ojeda, Alejandro Ojeda, Jamie Ojeda, and Damian Sanchez.
