The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity football team suffered another tough defeat on Friday for Homecoming, as they fell to Idalou, 35-6.

With the loss the Wildcats fall to 1- 3 overall on the season.

Head Coach Brent Green talked about the contest, saying, “I thought we did some good things offensively, but we just didn’t have enough consistency. We didn’t move the ball consistently enough to put together any drives.”

He added, “Defensively, we did some good things and they gave us a chance early in the game by going for a fake punt and we stopped them. Then we recovered a fumble, so the defense did their part early. But, the big play is what got us defensively; that and we just have to be more consistent offensively.”

The Wildcats totaled 171 yards of offense, including 157 rushing yards and 14 passing yards.

Senior slotback, Joseph Salinas, led the Wildcat rushing attack with six carries for 60 yards, while junior tailback, Ty’Jae Chambers, added 14 carries for 33 yards and one touchdown.

Senior quarterback, Blake Green, chipped in nine carries for 30 yards and junior slotback, Jordan Trevino, contributed six carries for 23 yards.

Green finished the game three-of-14 passing for 14 yards. Senior receiver, Juan Rios had two catches for seven yards and Salinas had one catch for five yards.

Defensively, sophomore linebacker, Javen Jimenez, led the team in tackles with five to go along with eight assists, while Salinas and senior, Kevie Hood, each tallied four solo tackles. Senior, Gus McNabb, Javier Ibarra and junior, Tavion Ivery, each tallied three solo tackles, while junior, Ethan Garcia, chipped in two tackles.

Coach Green talked about who they will have to key in on for Abernathy, saying, “Everything goes around quarterback Jess Hoel. He is a speedy guy, they like to get the ball in his hands and roll him out passing. Even in the run game, everything goes through him, they really want him to be the guy to carry the ball, so he is the guy we will have to key on. He is the focal point for our defense this week and we’ll have to do a good job of containing him.”

The Coach talked about what he needs to see from the offense this week, saying, “It all comes down to execution, whether it is in the back end or if it’s up in the line of scrimmage. We just have to execute better, we have to be more consistent and we have to put drives together that end in the endzone.”

Kick-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. at Abernathy.
