Wildcats blast Lamesa on the road, 47-18

The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity football team won their third consecutive contest on Friday, as they went on the road and took down the Lamesa Golden Tornadoes, 4718.

With the win, the Wildcats improve to 3-1 overall on the season.

The Wildcats totaled 373 yards of total offense, including 226 passing yards and 147 rushing yards.

In the first quarter, junior quarterback, Chip Green, connected with senior receiver, MJ Randle for a 47-yard touchdown through the air. The PAT by Ian Mendez was good, putting the Wildcats in front, 7-0. Later in the quarter, the Wildcats would add to their lead, as Green punched in a four-yard rushing touchdown. The PAT was no good, leaving the score, 13-0.

The Wildcats would strike again the opening quarter, as this time Green hit senior tight end, Brady Jones, for the one-yard touchdown. The PAT by Mendez was good, pushing their lead to, 20-0. Lamesa would answer to close out the first quarter, as they rushed for a 10-yard touchdown. The PAT was no good, leaving the score, 20-6, as the first quarter came to a close.

The second quarter would belong to the Wildcats, as Green connected with senior receiver, Omar Martinez for a three-yard touchdown pass to stretch their lead to, 26-6, after the missed PAT. Junior running back, Major McNeese, would followed it up with an 11yard rushing touchdown, followed with by the PAT from Mendez to extend their lead to, 33-6.

The Wildcats would close out the first half with another strike through the air, as Green, again, found Martinez, who took it 48yards for the touchdown. The PAT was good, making the score, 40-6, going into the locker room at halftime.

Lamesa would score on a twoyard run in the third quarter, but they missed on the two-point conversion, trimming the lead to, 4012, going into the final quarter of play.

In the fourth quarter, Green would punch in a two-yard rushing touchdown, followed with the PAT from Mendez, pushing their lead back out to, 47-12. Lamesa would answer with a two-yard rushing touchdown later in the quarter, but again missed on the two- point conversion, as Littlefield took the contest, 47-18.

Offensively, Green finished the game 12-15 passing for 226 yards and four touchdowns, while also adding 10 carries for 38 yards and two scores on the ground.

Hill led the rushing attack for the Wildcats with nine carries for 44 yards, while McNeese tallied nine carries for 34 yards and one touchdown and Ian Mendez finished with seven carries for 31 yards.

In the receiving game, Randle finished with three catches for 68 yards and one touchdown, while Martinez tallied two catches for 51 yards and two touchdowns and Jones caught one pass for one yard and a score. Josiah Garcia chipped in three catches for 64 yards, while Gabriel Villanueva contributed one catch for 32 yards and Mendez added two catches for 10 yards.

Defensively, Diego Ramirez and Jeremiah Trevino each tallied 11 total tackles, while Ramirez also recorded two sacks on the night. Gabe Montalvo recorded nine tackles and a forced fumble, while Sam Hill tallied six tackles and a fumble recovery. Noah Lopez added six tackles and a fumble recovery as well. The Wildcats will be at Brownfield on Friday to close out the pre-district schedule.
