Nettes take down Lady Owls, 61-36

The Sudan Nettes’ varsity basketball team clipped the Hale Center Lady Owls on Tuesday in their second meeting of district play, 6136.

With the win, the Nettes improve to 21-7 overall, 9-3 in district play.

It was a tight game early-on, with Sudan holding a, 13-11, lead through the opening quarter. The Nettes outscored the Lady Owls, 18-15, in the second frame to take a five-point lead, 31-26, into the locker room at halftime.

Sudan though would open things up in the third quarter, as they outscored Hale Center, 22-5, taking a, 53-31, lead into the final quarter of play. The Nettes outscored Hale Center, 8-5, in the fourth quarter to take the contest, 61-36.

Haylee Toscano led the team in scoring with 18 points, to go along with seven rebounds, three steals and one assist. She was joined in double-figures scoring by Blessy Montes, who tallied 13 points, 12 rebounds and two assists.

Addison Cornelius chipped in nine points, six rebounds, two blocks and one steal, while Melo Rodriguez contributed six points, 13 rebounds, seven assists and five steals, and Edette Herrera tallied six points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Kaileigh Greenwalt chipped in five points, four rebounds and one steal, while Emry Humphreys added two points, and Erica Herrera finished with two points and one rebound.

The Nettes were at Smyer on Friday to take on the Lady Cats for their second meeting of district play. Results were not available at press time. The Nettes closed out the regular season on Tuesday at home against New Deal.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
