Nettes take down Lady Lions; split season series

The Sudan Nettes closed out the regular season with a home victory over the New Deal Lady Lions on Tuesday, 63-36.

With the win, the Nettes improve to 23-7 overall, 11-3 in district play.

The Nettes jumped out to a, 132, lead in the first quarter and added 17 points in quarter number two to take a, 30-8, lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Lady Lions came alive in the third quarter, pouring in 20 points to cut the lead to, 41-28, going into the final quarter of play. But, in the final quarter, the Nettes poured in 22 points to slam the door on New Deal, taking the contest, 63-36.

The Nettes were led in scoring by Blessy Montes, who tallied 22 points, to go along with 10 rebounds and three steals. Melo Rodriguez joined her in doublefigures scoring with 13 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two steals, while Haylee Toscano tallied nine points, three rebounds, one assist and one steal.

Edette Herrera contributed eight points, seven rebounds, six assists, three steals and one block, while Addison Cornelius chipped in six points, seven rebounds and two steals. Kaileigh Greenwalt added two points, two rebounds and two steals, while Erica Herrera finished with one rebound.

The Nettes will take on Vega on Monday in Dimmitt in the Class 2A Bi-district round of the playoffs.

Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
