Nettes take down Lady Cats, 78-33, in second meeting

The Sudan Nettes’ varsity basketball team swept the season series with the Smyer Lady Cats on Friday with a, 78-33, victory.

With the win, the Nettes improve to 22-7 overall, 10-3 in district play.

The Nettes opened the game with a 20-point first quarter, and they added 18 points in the second frame to take a, 38-14, lead into the locker room at halftime.

They came out of the gates on fire in the second half, pouring in 28 points in the third quarter to extend their lead to, 66-21, going into the final quarter of play. In the fourth quarter, both teams tallied 12 points, as Sudan went on to take the contest, 78-33.

The Nettes were led by Blessy Montes, who netted 20 points, to go along with five steals, three rebounds and two assists, while Haylee Toscano tallied 15 points, five assists, four steals and one rebound, and Edette Herrera chipped in 14 points, four steals, three assists and one rebound.

Melo Rodriguez contributed 10 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals, while Addison Cornelius tallied eight points, seven steals and five rebounds, and Kaileigh Greenwalt contributed five points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists. Emry Humphreys added four points and two rebounds, while Erica Herrera finished with two points, two rebounds, two steals and one assist.

The Nettes closed out the regular season on Tuesday with a home game against New Deal. Results were not available at press time. They await their first round play-off match-up.
