Nettes sting Lady Owls in overtime, 66-62

The Sudan Nettes’ varsity basketball team won an overtime thriller over the Hale Center Lady Owls in Sudan on Friday, 66-62.

With the win, the Nettes improve to 16-5 overall, 4-1 in district play.

Sudan jumped out to an, 11-9, lead through the opening quarter, but both teams netted 15 points in the second frame to make it a twopoint Sudan lead, 26-24, going into the locker room at halftime.

Hale Center came out strong in the third quarter, outscoring Sudan, 15-5, to take a 39-31, lead going into the final quarter of play. The Nettes, though, would not go away, as they poured in 21 points in the fourth quarter to tie the game, 52-52, to force overtime.

In the extra period, Sudan outscored the Lady Owls, 14-10, to take the contest, 66-62.

Addison Cornelius led the Nettes with 20 points, to go along with nine rebounds, three steals and one assist, while Edette Herrera contributed 10 points, four steals, three rebounds and one assist, and Melo Rodriguez chipped in 10 points, 15 rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Blessy Montes tallied nine points, seven rebounds, one assist and one steal, while Haylee Toscano contributed nine points, three rebounds and one steal, and Emry Humphreys added three points and four rebounds. Kaileigh Greenwalt added three points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals, whil Lexi Jennings finished with two points and one rebound.

The Nettes hosted Smyer on Tuesday. Results were not available at press time. They will continue district play on Friday with a road game against New Deal.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
