Nettes blast Fillies, 20-1, in first meeting

The Sudan Nettes’ varsity softball team blasted the Olton Fillies on Tuesday, 20-1, in their first meeting of district play.

With the win, the Nettes improve to 10-10 overall, 8-5 in district play. Both team tallied one run in the first inning, but the Nettes exploded in the top of the second inning for 18 runs. The Nettes added a run in the top of the third, before shutting out the Fillies in the bottom half of the inning to take the contest, 20-1.

For Sudan, Blessy Montes threw three innings in the circle, giving up one walk, three hits and one run, while earning five strikeouts. For Olton, Denise Alvarado pitched 1.1 innings, giving up nine walks, three hits and 14 runs, 12 earned, while Emma Acker threw 1.2 innings giving up six walks and six runs, three earned.

At the plate for Sudan, they tallied three hits as a team, led by Edette Herrera, who finished with four RBI’s and two hits including a double. Laynee Jennings contributed one RBI and one walk, while Montes chipped in one hit for a double and two walks, and Lilly Sanchez added one RBI and two walks. Dani Ramirez finished with one RBI and three walks.

The Fillies tallied three hits as a team, led by Rebekka Lopez, who tallied one RBI and one hit. Alvarado and Barbara Gallegos each tallied one hit in the contest.
