The Olton Mustangs’ varsity football team celebrated homecoming on Friday with a, 52-21, victory over the Vega Longhorns at Mustang Stadium to close out the pre-district schedule.

With the win, the Mustangs improve to 4-1 overall on the season.

The Mustangs totaled 352 yards of total offense, including 188 rushing yards and 164 passing yards.

The Olton Mustangs got the ball to open the contest, but just a few plays into their opening drive, Raymond Ramirez hit Sebastian Sparkman with a pass, but the ball was fumbled and recovered by Cash Black at the Olton 46-yard line with 11:14 to play in the opening quarter.

Jose Silerio carried the ball on first down for the Longhorns, but he was stuffed at the line of scrimmage by Alan Vasquez. However on second down, Casen Brorman tossed a screen pass to his left to Black, who cut-back across the middle of the field toe the 46-yard touchdown with 10:19 to play in the first quarter. The PAT by Casen Brorman was good, making the score, 7-0.

The Mustangs took over at their own 25-yard line after a holding penalty on the kick-off, as Isaiah Ruiz took a run up the middle, but he was tackled for a two-yard loss. Raymond Ramirez took a quarterback keeper up the middle, moving the ball up to their 38-yard line to give Olton a fresh set of downs to work with.

Isaiah Ruiz carried the ball again on first down, picking up a few yards, but on the next play, their drive was de-railed as Raymond Ramirez delivered a pass over the middle looking for Vasquez, but the ball was tipped up and intercepted by Luke Coneway with 8:15 to play in the quarter.

Vega took over at their 40-yard line and were able to take the ball down to the Olton 34-yard line, but on fourth and six, they elected to roll the dice and go for it, but Casen Brorman’s pass, looking for Silerio, fell incomplete for a turnover on downs with 3:22 to play in the quarter.

Olton took over at their own 34yard line, as Isaiah Ruiz carried the ball on back-to-back downs, taking it up to their 47-yard line. Raymond Ramirez kept it himself on second down, but he was tackled for a loss by Karter Goldsmith, making it third and long.

On third down, Raymond Ramirez rolled out to his right and found Jimmy Munoz, who took the ball down to the Vega 36-yard line for an Olton first down. After backto- back runs went nowhere on first and second down, Raymond Ramirez dropped back on third down, looking to throw, but instead juked a defender in the backfield before taking the ball down the Olton sideline for a huge gain down to the Vega nine-yard line to set up first and goal.

Isaiah Ruiz carried the ball on first and goal to close out the first quarter and two plays later, Vasquez punched in the one-yard touchdown with a run up the middle with 11:22 to play in the first half. The two-point conversion run by Vasquez was good, making the score, 8-7, in favor of the Mustangs.

Vega took over after the kickoff at their own 47-yard line and took the ball just inside Olton territory, before Casen Brorman was picked off by Jacob Marquez, who took it down the Vega sideline, breaking a handful of tackles on his way to the pick-six with 9:37 to play in the half. Raymond Ramirez was sacked by Silerio on the twopoint conversion, making the score, 14-7.

The Olton defense came back on to the field looking to cause more havoc for the Vega offense, and they did just that, forcing a three-and-out, as Vega punted the ball away with 8:01 to play in the half.

A return by Jacob Escobar set the Mustangs up with a first down at their own 39-yard line. Olton, however, was unable to capitalize on the turnover, as they too went three-and-out, punting the ball away with just under six minutes to play in the half.

Olton’s stingy defense, though, would spoil things for the Vega offense once again, as Casen Brorman was picked off on second down by Munoz with 5:01 to play in the half, giving the Mustangs the ball at the Vega 39-yard line.

Olton drew a flag for defensive pass interference on first down and on the next play, Raymond Ramirez rolled out to his right, before reversing field to his left and scrambling for a first down at the 11yard line. Isaiah Ruiz carried the ball on first down, taking it down to the one-yard line and on the next play, Raymond Ramirez punched it in for the score with 3:49 to play in the half. Olton’s defense picked up where they left off in the first half, as they forced a three-and-out on Vega’s first possession of the second half, forcing the Longhorns to punt the ball away with less than a minute gone in the third quarter.

Olton took over at their own 44yard line, but were flagged for a false start, backing them up to their own 30-yard line. The Mustangs employed a heavy dose of the running game, as Raymond Ramirez carried the ball three consecutive times to set up first and 10 just inside Vega territory. Isaiah Ruiz carried it on back-to-back plays to set up third and one, and on the next play, Raymond Ramirez called his own number and moved the sticks for Olton, taking the ball down to the 22-yard line.

After an incomplete pass on first down, Baldo Garcia picked up 10 yards to give Olton a fresh set of downs at the 12-yard line, but on the following play, the Mustangs were flagged for a block below the waist, backing them up to the 27yard line. The run by Raymond Ramirez went nowhere on first down and Garcia picked up six yards on second down, setting up third and long.

On third and 21, Raymond Ramirez dropped back and heaved a pass to his right that found Munoz, who broke a tackle, taking the ball down to the five-yard line to set up fourth down. The Mustangs elected to go for it, as Isaiah Ruiz took it up the middle for the five-yard touchdown run with 4:17 to play in the third quarter. Raymond Ramirez hit Urbina on the fade route in the corner of the end zone for the two-point conversion to stretch their lead to, 36-7.

Silerio carried the ball on back-to-back plays to move the chains for Vega and on first down, Casen Brorman took a quarterback keeper to the right for a yard, before being tackled by Marquez. Resse Robins picked up a yard on second down, but on the next play, Casen Brorman hit Silerio with a pass on the left side, who took it down to the 17-yard line to move the chains for the Longhorns.

After a false start penalty backed them up to the 22-yard line, Casen Brorman dropped back and found Braden Brorman for the 22yard touchdown pass with 34 seconds remaining in the third quarter. The PAT by Casen Brorman was no good, leaving the score, 36-13.
