Lady Cats go undefeated at Floydada Tournament

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity softball team went undefeated this past weekend at the Floydada Tournament winning the championship game on Saturday over Muleshoe, 128.

With the wins, the Lady Cats improve to 10-1 overall on the year.

The Lady Cats opened tournament play Thursday morning with a, 10-8, win over Lubbock Christian High School.

The Lady Cats plated four runs in the top of the first inning, but the Lady Eagles fired right back, taking a, 5-4, lead into the second inning. Littlefield would out score LCHS, 4-3, in the second inning and the Lady Cats added two runs in the top of the third to take the contest, 10-8.

Lyric Rios pitched one inning, giving up five hits and five runs, while earning one strike out, while Cali Saldana pitched one inning, giving up three hits, one walk and three runs.

At the palte, the Lady Cats totaled 11 hits. BriannaAleman had two RBI’s and two hits including a homerun, while Taryn Golden tallied two RBI’s, two hits including a triple and a double and one walk. Bryndle Ray chipped in one hit for a fouble, while Alyssa Torres contributed two hits including a double and Saldana added two hits including a double.

In their second game of the tournament on Thursday, the Lady Cats took down Perryton, 16-0, moving to 2-0 in pool play.

Littlefield scored five runs in the first inning, four in the second inning and seven in the third inning to take the contest, 16-0.

Saldana threw three innings in the circle for the Lady Cats giving up just two hits, while earning one strikeout.

At the plate, the Lady Cats totaled 10 hits, led by Myli Hernandez, who tallied four RBI’s, two hits including a homerun and one walk. Aleman chipped in three RBI’s and two hits, including a double, while Natalia Sanchez contributed three RBI’s and one hit including a double. Rios finished with two RBI’s and two hits including a triple.

In their first game on Friday, the Lady Cats throttled Seagraves, 20-1. Littlefield opened the game with a sixrun top of the first inning, while giving up just one run in the bottom half. Their offense erupted in the top of the second inning, as they plated 10 runs to stretch the lead to, 16-1.

Both teams went scoreless in the third inning, but the Lady Cats were able to add four runs in the top of the fourth to take the contest, 20-1.

In the circle, Maggie McNeese pitched three innings, giving up three hits, two walks and one run, while earning two strikeouts.

At the plate, the Lady Cats totaled 20 hits, led by Torres, who tallied four RBI’s and four hits including a triple. Saldana added two RBI’s, three hits including a homerun and a double and one walk, while BrinleyAcevedo contributed one RBI and one hit for a double. Hernandez chipped in three RBI’s and two hits and Sanchez finished with two RBI’s and one hit for a double.

In game two on Friday, the Lady Cats defeated Palo Duro, 20-0, to finish off pool play, 4-0.

The Lady Cats came out hot on offense, scratching 12 runs across in the top of the first inning. Both teams went scoreless in the second inning, but the Lady Cats added eight runs in the top of the third inning, before blanking the Lady Dons in the bottom half of the fourth to take the contest, 20-0.

Rios pitched 2.1 innings in the circle, giving up just four hits, while earning two strikeouts in the contest.

At the plate, the Lady Cats tallied 14 hits, led by Ray, who finished with four RBI’s and three hits including a home run and two doubles. Sanchez tallied three RBI’s, two hits including a homerun and two walks, while Aleman contributed two RBI’s, one homerun and one walk.

Torres chipped in three RBI’s and four hits including two doubles, while Golden added two RBI’s, three hits including a triple and one walk, and Hernandez finished with two RBI’s, one hit and one walk.

In the Championship game on Saturday against Muleshoe, the Lady Cats grinded out a, 12-8, victory to finish the tournament 5-0 on the weekend.

Littlefield jumped out to an, 8-4, lead in the first inning and both teams went scoreless in the second, before Littlefield outscored the Lady Mules, 4-1, in the third inning, taking a, 12-5, lead. Muleshoe would add three runs in the bottom of the fourth, but both teams would go scoreless through the final three innings, as Littlefield held on for the, 12-8, victory.

Sanchez pitched a complete seven innings, givin up 13 hits, two walks and eight runs, while earning five strikeouts.

At the plate, the Lady Cats tallied 14 hits, led byAleman, who tallied five RBI’s on two hits. Torres chipped in three RBI’s, two hits and one walk, while Ray contributed two RBI’s, three hits, including two doubles and one walk. Saldana added three hits and Acevedo finished with one RBI and one hit.

The Lady Cats will be back in action on March 12th when they host Tahoka to close out the pre-district schedule.

First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
