Lady cats fall short against River Road, 0-3

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team fell to the River Road Lady Cats on Tuesday at home at Wildcat Gymnasium, 0-3.

With the loss, the Lady Cats fall to 12-7 overall on the season.

River Road was called for illegal alignment on the opening serve, but Olivia Sneed answered with a kill on the sideline to even the score, 1-1. River Road scored another kill on the sideline, before Ava Sharp hit a ball into the net to knot the score, 2-2.

Rhielyn Bertrand sent a hit into the net, but Littlefield couldn’t capitalize, as Sharp dropped a kill between Bryndle Ray and Madi Brown to tie the set, 3-3. Sharp followed it up with an ace off of Kennadi Hanlin, but Bertrand sent a hit into the net to keep the set knotted, 4-4.

A hit by Hanlin didn’t make it over the net, forcing a four-hits call on Littlefield, but on the next play, Julie Bownds delivered a kill through the block attempt of Isela Delgado and Braislyn Bertrand to keep things tied up, 5-5. Delgado delivered a kill off of Cali Saldana and Ray was called for a carry on a set to put River Road in front, 57.

Reese DeHart was called for a double hit on a set and Braislyn Bertrand was called for touching the net on the next play to tie the set, 7-7. Rhielyn Bertrand delivered a kill inside the back boundary line for River Road, but on the next play, DeHart was called for being across the net on a tip battle with Hernandez, making the score, 8-8.

Sneed delivered a kill off of Hanlin and Maggie McNeese had a tip blocked by Sharp for a kill, pushing River Road’s lead to, 810, as Littlefield took a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Sharp sent a kill into the net, but Littlefield couldn’t capitalize, as Hernandez hit a shot into the net, making the score, 9-11.

Heaven Hammett tipped the net for an ace and she followed it up with another ace in front of Hanlin to push their lead to, 9-13. A hit by McNeese was hit out of bounds by Hammett to trim the lead to, 1013. Delgado had a kill land just out of bounds, and on the next play, Taryn Golden had a hit slip over the net for a kill to make it a onepoint game, 12-13.

Bownds was blocked by Delgado for a kill and Ray touched the net on a dig, making the score, 12-15. A hit by Littlefield was hit out of bounds by River Road and Delgado sent a hit out of bounds on the sideline to cut their lead to one point, 14-15. Saldana served up back- to- back aces off of Hammett and Hayley Borrayo to give Littlefield a one-point lead, 16-15, as River Road took a time out to talk things over.

Out of the break, Ray set Amiah Elizondo up for a kill, and Bownds followed it up with a kill off of Hammett to extent their lead to, 1815. River Road would rally back to tie the set, as Elizondo sent a hit out of bounds, making the score, 18-18. DeHart served up an ace past Saldana, forcing Littlefield to take a time out to talk things over.

Out of the break, a kill by Bownds landed out of bounds and Delgado followed it up with a kill past the block attempt from Bownds, making the score, 18-21. River Road closed out the set on a, 1-4, scoring run to take set one, 19-25.

River Road opened up set two on an, 0-4, scoring run, before DeHart touched the net on a play making the score, 1-4. Bri Valdez was called for a double hit, but Delgado was called for being on the net, making the score, 2-5. Delgado fired right back with a kill past Ray and a hit by Delgado was hit out of bounds on a dig attempt by Hanlin to push their lead to, 27.

Delgado dropped in a tip off of Elizondo for a kill, stretching their lead to, 2-8, as Littlefield called for a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Bownds was called for a double hit, but River Road couldn’t capitalize, as Sharp sent a hit sailing out of bounds to make the score, 3-9. The hit by Braislyn Bertrand on the next play landed out of bounds, but Ray was called for a double hit on the following play, pushing the lead to, 4-10.

River Road would rally for three consecutive points, before a serve by Annie Winton landed out of bounds, making the score, 5-13. Hernandez followed it up with a kill over the block attempt by Sneed and Rhielyn Bertrand making the score, 6- 13. Rhielyn Bertrand sent a kill into the net, but River Road answered with three consecutive points, before Kate Winton sent a serve short of the net, making the score, 8-16.

Littlefield’s struggles in the set continued, as Valdez sent a serve short of the net and on the next play, Hernandez had a kill land out of bounds on the sideline, making the score, 8-18, as Littlefield took a time out. Out of the break, Sharp delivered a kill in the back corner for River Road and Hernandez was blocked by Sneed for a kill, pushing the lead to, 8-20.

Hernandez dropped a tip over Sneed for a kill and DeHart had a tip blocked by Golden for a kill trimming the lead to, 10-20. Sharp delivered a kill off of Saldana, but River Road was called for four hits on the next play, making the score, 11-21.

Delgado delivered a tip off of Saldana for a kill, but on the following play, DeHart set a ball up in the air, but none of her teammates reacted as Littlefield regained the serve, making the score, 12-22. A tip by Bownds was dug into the net by Hammett trimming the lead to, 13-22. River Road closed out the set, 16-25, to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

River Road took a, 0-3, lead to open set three, but Delgado was blocked by Bownds for a kill, making the score, 1-3. Delgado delivered a kill at the net over Valdez and she followed it up with a kill past the block attempt by Bownds to push their lead to, 1-5. Bownds ended the scoring drought for Littlefield with a kill inside the back line, but River Road answered with three consecutive points, making the score, 2-8.

A hit by Lyric Rios fell inside the back line for a kill, but Hernandez was called for touching the net on the next play, making the score, 3- 9. Braislyn Bertrand and Sneed sent back-toback hits out of bounds and Hailey Mayes sent a hit into the net, trimming the lead to, 6-9. Braislyn Bertrand delivered a kill off of Alyssa Torres sparking a three-point rally, as Littlefield took a time out trailing, 6-12.

Hernandez sent a hit out of bounds, but River Road couldn’t capitalize, as a hit by McNeese was returned outside the pole by Kate Winton, making the score, 713. Sharp was called for touching the net, but Sneed delivered a kill off of Valdez making the score, 814.

Borrayo served up an ace off of Valdez and a hit by Hanlin fell in for a kill on the sideline, making the score, 9-15. Bownds delivered a kill in front of Borrayo, but Elizondo sent a hit into the net, making the score, 10-16. Littlefield would rally back and make it a onepoint game, after Sharp sent a kill sailing out of bounds, making the score, 15-16.

Ray was called for a double hit, and DeHart followed it up with a tip for a kill to make the score, 1518. A kill attempt by Bownds sailed out of bounds and Braislyn Bertrand delivered a kill through the block attempt from Bownds and Valdez. A hit by Hanlin didn’t make it over the net, making the score, 15-21, as River Road took a time out to talk things over.

Littlefield scored a point out of the break, but a bad set by Valdez was hit into the net by Bownds, pushing the lead to, 16-22. Hanlin delivered a kill, but River Road answered with a kill off of Torres. Mayes was called for touching the net on a kill attempt, however on the next play, a dig by Brown was hit into the net by Hanlin, stretching the lead to, 18-24.

Sharp sent back-to-back kills sailing out of bounds for River Road, but Mayes delivered a tip for a kill to make the score, 20-25, as River Road took the match, 0-3.

The Lady Cats will close out the pre-district schedule with a road game against Post on Tuesday.

The first set is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
