Lady Cats fall to KPA at Ropes, 1-3

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team dropped their second match of a dual at Ropes last Tuesday to Kingdom Prep Academy, 1-3.

In set one, KPA jumped to an, 0-3, lead before Aubrey Ridenour had a tip blocked by Rylee Miller for a kill to make the score, 1-3. KPA would regain the serve, as Reese Ramsey dropped a tip over Faith Balderas for a kill, sparking a two-point rally to make the score, 1-5.

Ramsey sent a serve short of the net and Ridenour was called for touching the net on a block attempt for KPA, trimming their lead to, 3-5. Abby Rodriguez served up back-to-back aces to tie the set, 5-5, but on the next play, Kate Poe delivered a kill off of Anaei Ojeda and Maggie McNeese’s block attempt to make the score, 5-6, as KPA regained the serve.

The back-and-forth match continued until Mattie Seymore sent a serve short of the net, sparking a fourpoint rally for KPA to make the score, 11-15. Landree Hall sent a serve short of the net for KPA, but they would get it back two plays later, as a ball fell in for a KPA point after some miscommunication by Balderas and Ojeda, making the score, 13-16.

Anna Vargas couldn’t play a ball off of the net, sparking a five-point rally for KPA that ended when McNeese delivered a kill off of the block attempt from Ridenour, making the score, 14-20. KPA would go on to close out the set, 17-25, on a kill from Ramsey to take set one.

Poe sent a kill into the net for KPA to open set two, but the next serve from Jaidyn Saenz sailed out of bounds making the score, 1-1. The teams went back-and-forth until Hall had a tip land out of bounds on the sideline to make the score, 10-8. Hall bounce back with a kill on the sideline for KPA, but they were called for four hits on the next play, making the score, 11-9.

A serve from Saenz went unretumed by KPA, as they took a time out to talk things over, trailing the Lady Cats, 12-9. Out of the break each team sent a hit off of the mark but Ridenour dropped in a tip for a kill to cut the Littlefield lead to, 14-11. Both teams struggled to find their mark with hits, but Poe would respond for KPA with a kill off of Rodriguez to make the score, 15-13.

Two plays later, KPA would tie the set, 15-15, with an ace from Lydia Towell, as Littlefield took a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Seymore delivered a kill off of the block attempt by Adalynn Graves. Poe hit the foul pole on the next play, but she answered with a tip for a kill to regain the serve for KPA, making the score, 17-16.

Hall was called for being on the net, and Miller delivered a block on Poe for a kill, but KPA answered with a kill from Hall to make the score, 19-17. A dig by Balderas was tipped over the net by Miller for a Littlefield kill and Seymore followed it up with an ace in front of Blakely Farmer to stretch their lead to, 21-17, as KPA took another time out.

Out of the break, Seymore’s serve fell short of the net, but Rodriguez would respond on the next play with a kill just inside the back boundary line to push their lead to, 22-18. Saenz and Hall each had a serve fall short of the net and Rodriguez was called for stepping over the serve line, trimming their lead to, 23-20.

KPA would draw within one point after a kill from Towell was hit into the net by Rodriguez, but McNeese would score a kill off of the block attempt by Poe, as the Lady Cats evened the match, 1 -1, taking set two, 25 -23.

KPA responded, taking a back-and-forth set three, 1825, and they took set four, 14-25, to take the match, 13.
