Hornets sting Lockney, 15-1, in second meeting

The Sudan Hornets’ varsity baseball team picked up a run-rule victory over Lockney, 15-1, to sweep the season series with the Longhorns in Sudan on Saturday.

With the win, the Hornets improve to 8-4 overall, 2-0 in district play.

Sudan jumped on Lockney, 2-1, in the first inning, before outscoring the Longhorns, 2-0, in both the second and third innings, stretching their lead to, 6-1.

Sudan would erupt for nine runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, before blanking Lockney in the top of the fifth to take the contest, 15-1.

Sophomore, Caleb Groetken, pitched a complete game for the Hornets, throwing five innings, givin up just one walk and one run, 0 earned, while earning 12 strikeouts.

At the plate, the Hornets tallied five hits, led by Groetken, who finished with three RBI’s, two hits including a double and one walk. Junior, Marcello King, chipped in three RBI’s one hit for a double and two walks, while Julian Salas, tallied two RBI’s, one hit for a double and one walk.

Derek Rosa contributed two walks and one RBI, while Jesus Salas finished with two walks in the contest.

The Hornets were at New Deal on Tuesday to take on the Lions. Results were not available at press time. They will continue district play on Saturday with a home game against the Lions.

First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
