“As surely as the Lord your God lives,” she replied, “I don’t have any bread—only a handful of flour in a jar and a little olive oil in a jug. I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make a meal for myself and my son, that we may eat it—and die.” 1 Kings 17:12.

Have you ever felt like you were down to nothing? It might be physically like the widow that the scriptures are talking about above, or it could be emotionally or even spiritually where you just feel like you are literally empty. An example might be driving down the road and your car is telling you that the tank is empty, but you just don’t have any answer for it. From time to time, many of us get in this position. The struggles of life can be overwhelming, and we might even get to the point to where we think that we aren’t going to live through it.

The bible is such a wonderful blessing to the world because in it are several stories that remind us that God is with us. As a matter of fact, what I would like to tell you today is a phrase that I hope you keep in mind for the rest of your life. That phrase is this: “When you are down to nothing, God is up to something!”

In the story above, there was a great famine in the land which was brought on by the disobedience of God’s children in relation with God. This particular widow was not Jewish and living in a very difficult situation because she was widowed. In essence she was down to nothing. But God was up to something! This is a beautiful story of God providing in a miraculous way to show His love for all people, even those who didn’t even know or believe in Him. To keep this short, God actually provided for the Widow as she took care of Elijah feeding him, herself and her son until the famine ended. Not only that, but God also brought her son back to life when he had become sick and died. Boy, talk about feeling down to nothing, and seeing that God is up to something!

God is always at work trying to show us that He loves us. I truly mean always! He is always up to something! And He can move and do things beyond anything we can ever ask or imagine! His work is unexplainable and seems to never work on my timeline; however, I have learned through the years that I can trust Him in every situation, and more importantly what I want you to know is that He loves you! Yes you! Even if you have doubts that God exists, it does not change how He feels about you! Ever!

So, if you get in a situation where you feel overwhelmed or the gas tank of your life is on empty, remember, “When you are down to nothing, God is up to something! Just cry out to Him, Run to him! If you have doubts tell Him you aren’t even sure if He can help, and just wait and watch carefully because His mighty arm is about to show you something amazing!

When you are down to nothing, God is up to something!
