In Loving Memory Of
Sept. 22, 1950 ~ July 4, 2026
Myra Gail Morris, 75, passed from this life on July 4, 2026, at Sunset Valley Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in Littlefield, Texas.
On September 22, 1950, Gail was born in Roswell, NM, the first of five children. She spent the first five years of her life with her parents and then her younger brother, on a ranch outside Vaughn, NM. In 1955, the family moved to Fort Sumner and settled on a 53-acre sheep and alfalfa farm.
After graduating from Fort Sumner High School in 1968, Gail attended the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque and completed a Bachelor of Science degree in biology, with minors in chemistry, education, and English. Next, she completed a Medical Technology program and internship at UNM. Years later, she obtained a certification in metalworking and machining skills from the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) in Detroit.
She spent most of her career as a medical technologist in Albuquerque, as well as in Carlisle, PA, Detroit, MI, and most recently in Lubbock, Texas working for the City of Lubbock. After she retired, she lived with her brother in Amherst, Texas.
Gail loved taking care of animals, reading several books at a time, watching Unsolved Mysteries, playing 42 and chess, playing the clarinet and the mandolin, and engaging in deep, philosophical conversations. Although she never received instruction in art, she was a gifted artist and especially loved drawing animals. In 2025, the activities director at her nursing home entered some of her drawings in the amateur art competition at the Panhandle South Plains Fair. Gail won first- and second-place awards for two of them.
She is survived by two sisters, Margo Morris and Libbye Morris, both of Albuquerque; a stepsister, Kathy West and her family of Lubbock, Texas; and some close friends.
She is preceded in death by her father, Myron Eugene Morris in 1980; her mother, Melbalene Benton Morris Bibby in 1999; a sister, Mary Gwendolyn Morris Sena in 2003; and her brother, Myron Lee Morris in 2016.
Cremation arrangements are under the personal care of Hillcrest Funeral Home in Littlefield, Texas.
