John “Running Bear” Hernandez, Jr., 73, passed away Friday, Oct 30, 2020 in Lubbock. John was born May 11, 1947, in Eaton, CO, to Juan and Julia (Perea) Hernandez. He married Angelmira Martinez on Oct. 21, 1972, in Littlefield.
He retired from ACG after many years of service. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, grilling, spending time with his family and enjoying meals at his favorite restaurant, Bryan’s Steakhouse. He loved to watch his children and grandchildren at their sporting and school activities. He was a devout Catholic who had an unending faith in God. He was a staple amongst the community, always lending a helpful hand to those in need. He had a contagious laugh and unforgettable smile.
He is survived by two sons, John Andrew Hernandez of Plainview, and Rene Hernandez of Lubbock; two daughters, Melonie Hernandez Breen of Flower Mound, and Debbie A. Limon of Sudan; three sisters, Tomasita (Tommie) Torres of Littlefield, Julie Martinez of Littlefield, and Ramona (Cleo) Thompson of Garland; two brothers, Jerry (Pepe) Hernandez of Littlefield, and Juan Hernandez of San Antonio; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and two fur babies.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sister, Bernice (Nene) Padilla; brother, Juan (Peewee) Madrid; and great-granddaughter Yasmine Uriah Regalado.
A private family memorial service will be held on Nov. 4, 2020. Flowers may be sent to the family in c/o Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1305 Phelps Ave., Littlefield, TX 79339. Arrangements are under the personal care of Hillcrest Funeral Home in Littlefield.
