Harvey S. McClanahan, 82, of Littlefield, TX, passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday evening, October 19, 2023.
Harvey was born on January 2, 1941 to Jesse and Lois Parker McClanahan in Littlefield, TX. He met his wife, Deborah Rowan while attending Littlefield High School. Their first date was on Sadie Hawkins Day when Deborah's brother threatened to ask Harvey for her, if she didn't ask Harvey to the dance herself. He knew after the second date that he was going to marry her. They would have celebrated their 63rd Wedding Anniversary this year on Christmas day. Harvey and Deborah raised four sons and a daughter.
Harvey worked for TXDot for 31 years and had the privilege to retire a young 51, but also worked various side jobs, including pulling delinting trailers for Littlefield Delinting. He served as a precinct Constable for 12 years. His most cherished position was serving as Deacon for Parkview Baptist Church. He loved welcoming every person that walked through the doors of the church, making them feel as though they had been there their whole life. He knew no stranger.
Harvey had a passion for woodwork and spent hours in his wood shop creating beautiful masterpieces with his scroll saw. He took great joy in sharing his projects with his loved ones and others that he met along the way, just because he wanted to do something special for them.
Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Lois McClanahan; two sisters, Connie Barker and Sharon Collins; one grandson; and two great-grandsons.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah, of Littlefield; four sons, Jesse of Littlefield, Harvey, Jr and wife, Victoria of Ft. Worth, TX, Glenn and wife, Tamara of China Spring, TX, Joey and wife, AnnMarie of Littlefield; daughter, Cheryl Holt of Lubbock, TX; sister, Phyllis Davis of Littlefield;15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren with one on the way.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Parkview Baptist Church in Littlefield, TX.
Harvey's family would like to thank everyone for the numerous calls, messages, visits, hugs and so much food. The outpouring of love, prayers and condolences have been more than a comfort for our family. Our hearts overflow.
