Church service for Fidel Martinez, age 97, of Sudan, Texas, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, 2020 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Muleshoe, Texas with Father Leo Pahamtang officiating. Rosary will be said at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, 2020 at Ellis Funeral Home in Sudan. Burial will be in Sudan Cemetery. Fidel died Friday, Oct. 16, 2020 in Littlefield, Texas.
He was born Oct. 27, 1922 in Brackettville, Texas to Jesus and Maria (Jaso) Martinez. He married Maria E. Davila in Sudan on Nov. 25, 1978. Fidel worked at the Central Compress in Sudan for many years. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Muleshoe.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Luisa Dominguez; and three brothers, Enrique Martinez, Sotero Martinez and Innocente Martinez.
Fidel is survived by his wife, Maria; his three daughters, Amy Jimenez and her husband, Omar of Slaton, Texas, Emily Basaldua and her husband, Christopher of Tulia, Texas and Anita Smith of Commerce, Georgia; his sister, Alicia Rodriguez of Albuquerque, New Mexico; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
