David Anderson Goen (Fatsi), 83, was born in Anton, TX to Claude and Jessie Goen on September 5, 1937. He went to live with Jesus on April 30, 2021 surrounded by family. Soon after his passing there was a short period of rain shower.

David’’s childhood was spent in Anton where he helped on the family farm. He also helped care for his younger brothers. He graduated from Anton high school in 1956. He then moved to Littlefield, TX shortly after marrying Linda Kay Goen (Emfinger) on October 10, 1958. David continued farming until his retirement in 2014. He was also a Deacon from 1977-87 and an elder from 1987-97 at Duggan Avenue Church of Christ.

Fatsi’’s favorite thing was to read the Bible. Playing board games with family, telling stories, talking about weather and gas prices, and fishing were a close second. Many would say he could get a fish with a full belly to bite any day. He also enjoyed giving the most creative nicknames to others, coaching youth basketball and baseball, and playing with his grandkids. Some of his greatest achievements include being the Best Fatsi Ever and always walking with Jesus and spreading His word to others. He was considered a father to 28 foreign exchange students in which he taught them all about who the True Father is. If you knew him at all, you’’d agree he was a goofy, grumpy, Godly Goen.

Fatsi will be most remembered for his big heart. He was always helping those in need in any way possible. Even in his last days, he was willing to allow a stranger to stay in his home, “as long as he didn’’t have to give up his bed.” He also made it a point to patrol Highway 84 for those in need of help or a ride. Everything he did was full of love, and we will never forget the passion that went into making his fried crappie dinners, rolling out pie crusts, and peanut butter and syrup on toast. Fatsi’s goofy side is one of our favorite things. He was always making silly sounds and faces at you or making up sayings that you could never imagine coming up with yourself. Also, if you’’d ever had him sing Happy Birthday to you, it was something you’’d never forget. When his grandkids were young, they would always want to ride with him because he had enough candy and cookies in the back of his truck to suffice a child’’s sweet tooth. Simply said, if you met him, you’’d never forget him.

David is survived by his wife, Linda of 62 years; their three sons, David William and wife, Angie of Sudan, TX, Bret John and wife, Pam of New Jersey, and Erik Dwain of Dallas, TX; seven grandchildren, Nathan, Amanda and husband, Paul Conrad, Jade, Sydney, Raemi, Kamryn, and Boston Goen; two brothers, Doug and James Goen; and many nieces and nephews.

David is preceded in death by his parents, Claude Ervin and Jessie Pearl Goen and three brothers, Bill, Jerry, and Ronald Lee Goen.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Crescent Park Church of Christ. His viewing will begin at 12:30 p.m. and funeral thereafter at 2 p.m.

We love you so BIG Fatsi!
