Leroy Maxfield, 90, of Amherst, passed away Monday, December 28, 2020 in Amherst. He was born December 31,1929 in Dalhart, Texas to RL and Frankie Mae (Reece) Maxfield.

Leroy graduated from Sudan High School. He married Yvonne Harmon on June 23, 1949 in Clovis, New Mexico. They settled in Amherst, Texas where they raised their family. Leroy loved farming and agriculture. He was a kind man who would help anyone in need. He and Yvonne never missed any local sporting event, they loved to support and encourage the area youth. Leroy served on the Amherst ISD School Board, the Farmers Coo-op Gin Board, Amherst First United Methodist Church Board and helped in many other aspects of his community. Above all else, he was a Christian and servant of the Lord, and was a member of Amherst First United Methodist Church.

Leroy is survived by his wife of 71 years, Yvonne Maxfield of Amherst; three sons, Sammy Maxfield and wife, Leta of New Deal, Rodney Maxfield and wife, Donna ofAmherst, and Jeremy Maxfield and wife, Jessica of Lubbock; three grandchildren, Misty Bateman, Kyle Maxfield and Nichole Stephens; ten great grandchildren; a brother, GW Maxfield of Stephenville, TX; two sisters, Juanita Jones of Tulsa, OK and Wilma Fox of Humble, TX; and other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jimmy Maxfield; and a sister, Louise Hayes.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, December 31, 2020 at First United Methodist Church in Amherst with Ronnie Hedges officiating and Jim Harris and Cam Givens assisting. Interment will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery atAmherst A come and go viewing will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the personal care of Hillcrest Funeral Home in Littlefield.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Memorial Fund at the First United Methodist Church in Amherst or the Amherst EMS/Fire Department.
