Floyd "Cotton" McElroy

Sept. 14, 1937 ~ June 17, 2026

Floyd "Cotton" McElroy, 88, of Littlefield, Texas, went to be with his Lord Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at home. He was born on September 14, 1937, in Garza County to Buck and Audrey (Mallow) McElroy.

Cotton married the love of his life, Janice Heard on November 29, 1959, at the Church of Christ in Littlefield. The couple remained dedicated to the church after their marriage and were active members. Cotton was a hard worker and a great provider for his family. He was a loyal employee for the Texas Department of Transportation for many years before his retirement in 1999, and he often worked a second job to make sure his family had all they needed. He was a quiet man, but wise and strong in his beliefs. Cotton loved riding motorcycles, fishing and camping, but above all else he loved spending time with his family. He loved being "Grandpa" or "Pops" to his Littles and found joy in watching them grow up.

Cotton is survived by his wife of 66 years, Janice McElroy of Littlefield; a daughter, Ashley McElroy Cotton and husband, Justin of Lubbock; his three "Littles" that he adores, Lyndee, Laicen and Lincoln; a brother, Joe McElroy and wife, Clara of Lubbock; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by a son, Kip McElroy; a daughter, Kimberly McElroy; his parents; and siblings Ima Jean Curry, Jasper David, Jr. 'Bud', Velma Duncan, Irene Pickett, Margie Osborne, Mary June McElroy, Dorothy Oden, Wayne McElroy, and Ronnie McElroy.

Services to honor the life Cotton lived were held Monday afternoon, June 22, 2026, at Crescent Park Church of Christ in Littlefield. Interment followed in Littlefield Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers were Kevin Thompson, Dennis McCain, Jake Dewit, Brad Heffington, Tanner Heffington and Turner Heffington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the New Mexico Children's Home (1356 NM 236, Portales, NM 88130) or the Children's Home of Lubbock (4404 Idalou Road, Lubbock, TX 79403).

Arrangements were under the personal care of Hillcrest Funeral Home in Littlefield.
