Lamb Co. Jr. Livestock Show to start Thurs.

The 2022 Lamb County Junior Livestock Show will begin Thursday, Jan. 6th, on behalf of the active 4-H and FFA exhibitors from every commmunity in Lamb County. Youngsters from Littlefield,

Youngsters from Littlefield, Amherst, Olton, Springlake-Earth and Sudan will be bringing their livestock to the Ag and Community Center’s show barn in Littlefield for the show.

Judging of all of the animal categories will be done Saturday, Jan. 8th.

Their awards are designed for honor and recognition of excellence in feeding, fitting, and showmahship of their animals.

No premium auction is associated with this show.

Ribbons will be awarded to exhibitors of animals placing first through fifth, and participant ribbons will be awarded to exhibitors placing below fifth.

Rosettes will be awarded to exhibitors of breed and reserve breed champions, while belt buckles will be awarded to exhibitors of grand and reserve grand champion animals

Belt buckles will also be awarded to showmanship winners in the goat, lamb, swine and beef cattle (steers and heifers combined), and dairy heifer divisions.

Animals to arrive

At 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, livestock may begin moving into the barn AFTER stall and pen assignments have been posted by division superintendents.

By 4:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, all livestock must be in place.

At 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, the Superintendents begin weighing steers and checking heifer papers.

The deadline is 6 p.m. for exhibitors to submit lamb, goat, and swine weight cards to the superintendents.

Animal judging

Saturday, Jan. 8, the judging of show animals will begin at 8 a.m. with the goats being judged first. After that, the lambs will be judged, followed by the swine, beef heifers, market steers and dairy heifers.

The showmanships will be judged during the show, and winners will be announced at the conclusion of each of the divisions.

Winners will be receiving belt buckles.

Judges

Austin Voyles will judge all of the animals, except the Dairy Heifers, which will be judged by K. R. Averhauf. Superintendents and Assistants

Market goats and market lambs, Lee Ray and Dakota Lewis.

Market swine, Graham Henley and Kevin Bates.

Breeding Beef Heifers, and Market Steers, Dakota Lewis and Gary Bigham.

Alan Been, Ag Science teacher for Springlake-Earth FFA; Johnny Brock Ag Science teacher for Amherst FFA; and Dalton Howard, Ag Science teacher for Sudan FFA.

Kendra Callahan County Ag Extension Agent, for Lamb County 4-H.

Gale Long and Nikki Smith, Ag Science teachers for Olton FFA; and Cody Spies, Ag Science teacher for Littlefield FFA.

Chadd Schroeder will be announcing for all of the animal shows, with the exception of the Dairy Heifer show, when Jill Van de Pol will serve as announcer.

Concessions

This year, food concessions will be provided by the Lamb Co. 4-H.
