To the Patrons of Littlefield ISD: It is hard to believe we are getting ready to celebrate “Christmas.” The first semester of school has flown by! From everyone at Littlefield Independent School District, we wish each of you a “Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.” With the holidays coming up, our annual “Wildcat Basketball Tournament” will be getting underway. The tournament is scheduled for Monday, December 27 and will run through Wednesday, December 29. A special “Thank You” to all the workers and sponsors who help make this event a huge success. The Lamb County Ag. Show is scheduled for January 5-8 at the Ag. Barn followed by the Lamb County Area Show on January 11-15. Littlefield, Amherst, and Sudan will all be participating. I encourage you to come and support our students in every activity they participate in for LISD.

With the conclusion of the first semester, it is time to highlight our “ACCOMPLISHMENTS.” Beginning in the Primary, our enrollment has been staying steady around the 305-310 mark. Our parent engagement is increasing with the Family Nights planned and attended by many. Some of our events included: Community Picnic, Family Reading Night, Pumpkin Carving/Decorating Night, and the Family Christmas Night. Positive feedback from families and community members about the activities planned has been appreciated . Our teachers are learning how to track student data and dig into data to determine gaps for each individual student. Lead4ward is being introduced as a way to organize data and raise the rigor by using engaging instructional strategies. Teachers are meeting with each student and setting goals for their testing. Balance Literacy was introduced to classroom teachers in June. Teachers are using “Best Practices” and the components of Fountas and Pinnell Balanced Literacy to increase reading rigor in the building. Our goal is to increase the percent of students reading at or above grade level by the end of the 21-22 school year . Balanced Literacy is helping our students grow in reading!

In the Elementary, a number of our students got to experience competition between individuals and teams while representing Littlefield Elementary School at the UIL Academic meet that was held in Friona, Texas. The elementary staff was able to take the Elementary to a Lady Raider Basketball game in Lubbock, Texas. Our students and staff were able to experience a small part of college and campus life during their tour. The students thoroughly enjoyed their time on campus and also at the United Spirit Arena. The behavior of our students was impeccable! Finally, we are beginning to see our day to day instruction get back to normal. This is a major plus for our students and staff!

The Junior High WON the University Interscholastic League Academic District Championship with a total of 1,112 points. The Junior High One Act Play placed second in District competition. The Junior High Band received All Region Honors for their performances in Shallowater and Hale Center. Our teachers are working each day to provide the best education possible for our students. We have had a tremendous first semester and are looking forward to great things in the spring.

The High School hosted “Shattered Dreams,” an exceptional “Veterans Program” and a Christmas party for the Kindergarten. Our Fine Arts Department has been busy as well. The Wildcat Band advanced to Area in the UIL Marching Contest and the Littlefield High School Theater students hosted community and students for the show “Chemical Imbalance.” Our FFA is hosting a “Toy Drive” for children in our community and our Spanish Club is hosting a “Blanket Drive.” On the athletic side, all of our student athletes did a fabulous job of representing Littlefield Schools. We had two student athletes advance to the Regional competition in Cross Country. Our Volleyball team finished second in District competition and won their Bi-District championship game against Alpine to advance to Area. As you can see, we have an outstanding first semester academically and extracurricular wise.

KUDOS TO ALL TEACHERS, STUDENTS AND STAFF MEMBERS OF LISD FOR A SUPERB FIRST SEMESTER OF SCHOOL!

On behalf of Littlefield Independent School District, MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!

School will resume on Tuesday, January 4 at regular time for students.

PROUD TO BE A WILDCAT!
