PRESS RELEASE

NOVEMBER 16, 2021

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FROM:

Mike Read

Superintendent of Schools Littlefield ISD

As the designated spokesperson and superintendent for the Littlefield Independent School District (the District"), I am issuing the following statement:

On Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at approximately 11:15 a.m., the District's administration received a report that a District student may have brought a gun to the High School. Immediately, the District's administration began investigating this alleged threat and took direct and deliberate measures to ensure the safety of its students and employees. Included in those safety measures was instituting a temporary lockdownof the campus until approximately 11:25 a.m. The District's investigation did not discover a firearm on campus. The District further immediately contacted local law enforcement officials, and they responded immediately.

Student safety and welfare are of paramount importance to the District, and we take every allegation of a school safety violation seriously. We believe there is no present danger to our students and schools. Nonetheless, we will continue to take all measures necessary to ensure that its students are educated in a safe learning environment at all of our campuses.

Possession of a firearm on school property by a student is an extremely serious violation of the Student Code of Conduct, District policy and is a criminal matter. This incident is being treated as such. All required actions concerning this matter have been taken by the District and law enforcement. State and federal law prohibit the District from disclosing personally identifiable student information. Therefore, the District cannot provide further information on this matter.

The District will continue to fully cooperate with all authorities having jurisdiction over this matter as needed and to the fullest extent permitted by law.

As Superintendent of Schools, I am very proud of the students, staff, and Littlefield Police Department for the prompt and proactive measures taken in resolving this situation.

Mike Read, Superintendent of Schools, Littlefield ISD
