Fred Martinez, 86, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 7, 2021, in Littlefield. He was born on Nov. 24, 1934, to Gonzalo and Rita (Medina) Martinez in Littlefield, TX.

Fred married Connie Gonzales on May 14, 1959, in Littlefield. He was a wonderful husband and was dearly loved by his grand-children and great-grandchildren who called him Popo.

Fred graduated from Littlefield High School where he played football, was Squad King, and was freshman class favorite. He also attended West Texas State in Canyon, TX for four years and played football for one year. Fred went on to become a lab and x-ray technician for many years. He loved fishing, playing golf, and watching football. Those who knew him were sure that there would likely be a toothpick in his mouth.

Fred attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses and as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, he loved sharing with people the good news of Gods’ Kingdom. He would often tell people about God’s loving promises and the wonderful hope for the future.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Connie Martinez of Littlefield; one daughter, Tisha Martinez, of Littlefield; three grand-children Ashley (Jourdan) Coleman, Jayden (Natalie) Martinez, and Dylan Brown; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his daughter in-law Nora Martinez; and his three sisters, Julia Rodriguez of Littlefield, Tina Roberts of Littlefield, and Gloria Esquivel of Dimmitt.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Freddy Martinez; two brothers, John and Joe Martinez; and sister Carol Martinez.

Honorary pallbearers were Jayden Martinez, Dylan Brown, Noah Martinez, Jourdan Coleman, Elijah Ogden, Joe Giddens, and Kip Cutshall.

Memorial services were held Friday, Nov. 12, 2021. Visitation and viewing were held Thursday, Nov. 11, 2021, from 5 to 7 p.m. Arrangements were under the personal care of Hillcrest Funeral Home.
