The Lamb County Retired School Personnel Association met on September l, 2026 for their regular meeting.
The following subjects were discussed: Legislative Goals for the 2026-27 school year—restore actuarial soundness to the Texas Retirement System, encourage the Legislature to restore a COLA for retired school personnel which can happen once there is actuarial soundness, maintain the meaningful Benefit enhancement, increase membership in Retired Teacher System, and Fund TRSCare.
The District XVII President and the District XVII State Legislative Chairman encourage members to talk to other people about our aims and encourage them to vote for candidates who endorse those aims.
During the election year that the COLA passed, 84% of all Texans voted for the COLA.
The TRTA Foundation discussed funds that current and retired teachers can access. Information can be found on the TRTA website.
In May of 2026 an Anton ISD senior received the scholarship funded by the Lamb County Retired School Personnel Association. During the school year, the Association collected monies and sold homemade goodies to fund the scholarship.
Also in May, the Association delivered books to the second graders in Anton. The Association members donate monies at the monthly meetings, and the officers donate and buy the books for distribution.
On September 25 the Association will hold a Bake Sale at the Lions’ Club Supper in the AG Building, beginning at 5 p.m., before the LHS football game. Association members are requested to bring two baked items for the sale. No individual items such as cookies, brownies, hand pies should be brought. The monies raised will be used for our scholarship. Members are asked to have the baked goods at the site by 4:45 p.m.
The October meeting will be on Tuesday, October 6. Tim Walker will review the amendments and propositions which will be voted on.
