U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins joined commodity groups and industry in Lubbock at the USDA Cotton Classification Complex to discuss pertinent issues in agriculture. Plains Cotton Growers was honored to attend, with PCG President Travis Mires present-ing a key issue for cotton growers to Secretary Rollins.
“It’s vital that we have an updated Farm Bill to help us mitigate our risk and keep the business doors open, so-to-speak,” he said.
Fifteen other producers and industry representatives echoed his sentiment. Many issues were discussed and the Secretary was engaged in each comment, often asking questions for clarification or providing her own context to issues brought up around the room. It felt good to be in the room yesterday. While farmers may be facing a heap of problems, those problems are prioritized at USDA for the first time in years.
We look forward to working with Secretary Rollins and her teams as they strive to help farmers and ranchers achieve prosperity in this Administration.
P. S. She showed up to the events yesterday dressed headto- toe in 100% cotton. She’s walking the talk and it was great to see.
