Two-vehicle wreck leaves one dead, one injured Wed. morning

A two vehicle wreck Wednesday morning around 9 a.m. on U.S. Highway 385, approximately 4.2 miles north of Whitharrel left one dead and one injured.

A 2014 Frightliner M2 was traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 385 in the northbound lane. A 2016 Nissan Versa was traveling southbound in the southbound lane. The Freightliner drifted left and crossed into the southbound lane of travel. Both vehicles collided in the southbound lane.

The driver of the Nissan Versa, Elaine Maribel Martinez, 19, of Sudan, Tx, was pronounced deceased as a result of the injuries she sustained during the crash. The driver of the Freightliner, Datyrik Terell Sheppard, 38, of Lubbock, Tx, was treated for minor injuries at the scene.
