TDI Truck Driving School open to students who want to earn CDL

The TDI Truck Driving School, LLC is open to students looking to receive their CDL license.

The school’s main office is located at 514 Phelps Avenue in Littlefield, Texas. Owner and operator Alejandro Ojeda is expanding the driving school. Currently there are three locations: Littlefield, Plainview and Herford. Soon, a new location will be opening in Lubbock.

The school offers Class B and A CDL license training and HAZMAT Endorsement.

TDI Truck Driving School, LLC opened on Feb. 7, 2022. Before that, Ojeda noticed a rule change by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regarding training.

“They changed the rules for training because every state was doing it differently,” Ojeda said.

To better regulate the training, the federal government stepped in and standardized the testing and training.

“You could go from state to state and they wouldn’t change,” Ojeda said.

The rule changes were made in 2013, at the time Ojeda was creating programs in New Mexico College and Hobbs that are still in effect at the colleges.

“I’ve always had a lot of interest in training and education,” Ojeda said.

Ojeda graduated from Littlefield High School and then joined the Marine Corps. He was a combat veteran. He received a two-year oilfield-based degree in operational safety from San Juan College in Farmington, New Mexico. He then obtained his four-year degree from the University of Texas in El Paso in education.

The school in Plainview opened in Dec 2024. The location in Lubbock will be opening in March.

Potential students must take an online test before starting school.

Those who want to apply to a program can go through the Texas Workforce Commission. Applicants may qualify to have the program fully funded.

“ If you qualify by income level, they will fully grant your entire expenses,” Ojeda said.

Those who receive a grant are mandated to be in class for four weeks, applicants can also “selfpay.” Students who pay out of pocket can choose between one, two, or a three-week program.

“To get in the truck and drive you have to take a written test,” Ojeda said.

Potential students must take the test and a medical physical to receive a permit. A permit expires within six months, students are required to hold their permit for 14 days before they can attempt to pass their driver’s test.

At TDI Truck Driving School, class sizes are small.

“We try to accommodate the student,” Ojeda said.

The school accepts about eight students but usually has three to four in each class. Classes are held Monday through Friday but have optional weekend classes available to students who request it.
