The Area 1 Conservation Awards banquet was held in Plainview on Tuesday, May 2, 2023. Christian Delgado and Trayce Tolbert of Sudan were recognized for their participation in the Texas Conservation Awards Program sponsored by Lamb County, Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board and the Association of Texas Soil and Water Conservation Districts.

Christian Delgado placed 1st in District and 2nd in Area in the Junior Essay category. Trayce Tolbert placed 1st in District and 3rd in Area in the K-2nd Grade Poster Contest category.

Other Local District winners are: ESSAY CONTEST Junior Division (13 and Under): second place Halen Ruiz and third place Charlie Phillips.

Senior Division (14-18-year olds): first place Lexi Jennings, second place Melanie Gore and third place Addisyn Harrell.

POSTER CONTEST

Third through sixth grade division: First place Lynnlee Brashear, second place Anamya Gotcher and third place Jacelyn Acevedo.

Tretha Caddell is also being recognized by Lamb County for being named District, Area and State Winner of this year’s Conservation Rancher award.

Their efforts in implementing conservation best management practices on their Yellow House Ranch including brush management, prescribe grazing and overall conservation stewardship.

The Texas Conservation Awards Program began in the late 1970’s to recognize conservationists and the vital role they play in managing Texas’ natural resources. The purpose of the program is to acknowledge, recognize, and honor individuals that dedicate their time and efforts to the conservation of natural resources.

The program provides an opportunity for competition and incentives to expand and improve conservation efforts as well as the wise utilization of renewable natural resources. Categories recog- nized through the Texas Conservation Awards Program are: Poster Contest and Junior and Senior Essay Contests, Conservation Farmer, Outstanding Soil and Wain ter Conservation District, Conservation Rancher, Friend of Conservation, Conservation Teacher and Wildlife Conservationist.
