Many Littlefield High School students received the awards they had earned throughout the 2020-2021 School Year, during the 2020-2021 annual LHS Awards Reception Thursday morning, May 20, 2021 in Littlefield Wildcat Gym.
The program began with the welcome by Dylon Redman, the invocation by Kamryn Palma, and the Pledge to the U.S. Flag, led by Kaden Ortega.
Students in each of the four LHS classes were each presented every award they were recognized for during the year, and were presented with all of the awards together in a large envelope. That way, they didn’t have to make several trips to pick up the different awards.
A Grand Total of $221,450 in scholarships presented, were first on the schedule for the Awards Reception.

Newton Family Memorial: The Newton Memorial Scholarship was established in 2000 by Alan Newton of Littlefield and Roger Newton of Ventura, California to honor their parents: Flannery and Mary Newton of Littlefield. Mr. and Mrs. Newton were long time business owners and active as volunteers in Littlefield and Anton. They grew up during the Depression and were not able to attend college, however they inspired both of their sons to complete a college education. Roger passed away in 2003 from lung cancer. Flannery Newton passed away in 2009 at the age of 95 and Mary Newton passed away in 2011 at the age of 97. Alan and Jere Newton provide this scholarship to students who value: higher education; hard work; citizenship and being of service to others. The TWO recipients are: $500 each – Bo Hernandez and Caden Longoria
Patric Barrio Memorial Youth Basketball- $500 – Jeremiah Salazar
Patsy Lively Brittain Memorial proudly presents ONE scholarship. Jim Tom Brittain, long time resident of Littlefield designated 20% of his estate to go to the Littlefield ISD for the purpose of creating scholarships in loving memory of his mother, Patsy Lively Brittain. Mrs. Brittain taught Home Economics in Littlefield High School for many years. This year’s Patsy Lively Brittain Memorial scholarship, in the amount of $4,000 over the course of four years, is awarded to: $4,000 – Veronica Torres
Richard Thompson Memorial- $500 – Bo Hernandez, presented by Lori Zinn and Tracy Thompson
Rotary Club of Littlefield proudly presents TEN scholarships. Each-$8,000 total; $1,000 per semester for 8 consecutive semesters:

Known Local Scholarships Awarded: $125,950 South Plains College
South Plains College congratulates the following students who have been offered scholarships to attend SPC this coming fall semester. Scholarships are geing awarded to 11 Litttlefield High School graduating seniors totaling $22,000.
SPC Opportunity Scholarships are awarded to provide students with the opportunity to start college at SPC. Recipients of the $500 scholiships are: Arturo Carrillo, Brianna Klatt, Klarissa Mendoza and Gabriel Rodriguez.
Founders Opportunity Scholarship provides scholarships for students who have demonstrated scholarship, character and leadership in their high school careers. They are Caden Longoria and Andrea Ramon, who receive the $1,000 scholarships.
The John L. and VergieBelle Smallwood Scholars program is one of the most distingished scholarship programs at South Plains College. Students designated as Smallwood Scholars who are granted a $1,500 scholarship for two years for a total of $3,000 are Cade Doty, Blake Green, and Gus McNabb.
The SPC Gen Tex $1,000 Certifactes to Geyah Garza and Veronica Torres.
SPC Honors Scholarships: for tuition and fees. Salutatorian Honors $3,000 Scholarship to Judith Alvarez; and Valedictorian Honors $5,000 Scholarship to Geyah Garza. Geyah has also been awarded a $1,000 South Plains Generation Texas Matching Scholarship.
Judith Alvarez, Hardin- Simmons University Presidential, $64,000.
Vernica Torres, WTAMU Regent’s Scholarship, $4,000; WTAMU Resident Undergraduate Designated tuition, $1,500; and WTAMU Troy F. Martin Memorial, $500.
Bo Hernandez, Texas Tech Engineering Recruitment, $2,000.
Total other scholarships is $95,000.
Sports Scholarships
The Littlefield Booster Club also awarded $5,500 in scholarships for Scholastic Achievement Awards at the Athletic Banquet in the amount of $500 each to: Boys: Cade Doty, Blake Green, Turner Heffington, Bo Hernandez and Gus McNabb;
Girls: Hannah Ballejo, Geyah Garza, Samira Medina, Katherina Ojeda and Paige Sawyer
The Littlefield Booster Club also awarded the Jerry Blakely Student Athlete Scholarship in the amount of $500 to: Geyah Garza.
