LCEC Hosts 87th Annual Business Meeting

The Lamb County Electric Cooperative hosted its 87th Annual Membership Meeting on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. The meeting included reports of officers, directors, and committees, and the election of two directors whose terms were expiring. A catered meal was provided by River Smith’s of Lubbock, Texas. There were door prizes for participants, and entertainment including mini train rides, face painting provided by the Sudan Hornet Varsity Cheerleaders, pony rides and a petting zoo was provided for children.

Following the registration of attendees and the meal, the meeting began with the announcement of door prizes to be presented during the meeting by Kathy Shipp, the manager of Administrative Services. The prizes included gift cash cards, a Dyson vacuum, and a Blackstone Grill.

Blake Moore, General Manager/CEO, presented the management report which gave a brief overview of service actions during 2024 which included actions taken to “keep the price of electricity extremely low due to low prices of natural gas. Two storms which damaged or brought down over 200 utility poles including transformers and lines. He stated that “fortunately the combination of the two storms qualified for reimbursement from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.”

Mr. Moore went on to to state that the “great relationship with our wholesale power provider, Golden Spread Electric Cooperative, is what enables us to keep your power bills as low as possible.”

Mr. Moore ended his presentation stating that “Our mission does not change here at Lamb County Electric Coop. We continue to keep our member as our top priority in all decisions that are made at the cooperative. Through well-trained staff and safe, reliable equipment, we are able to provide our members with the service they deserve.” Each member was provided a complete Revenue and Expense report.

Lupe Marquez, the Administrative Coordinator, gave a brief history of the youth tour program and then introduced the 2025 winner of the annual Youth Tour to Washington D.C. In 1999 Lamb County Electric Cooperative sent their first youth tour delegates on the Texas Youth Tour.

Fast forward to today, and the excitement and participation is no exception.

The two delegates chosen to represent LCEC, to embark on a “trip of a lifetime” to Washington D.C. in June of this year were Naomi Mosqueda and Bailey Timmons. Naomi gave a brief overview of her experience in the nations capital. She is the daughter of Juan and Katherina Mosqueda. She is a 2025 graduate from Olton High School. Naomi is now a freshman at South Plains College with a major in Welding Technology.

Bailey Timmons is the daughter of Jake and Tracy Timmons. Bailey is a 2025 graduate from Whiteface High School and is now a freshman at Oklahoma State University with a major in Plant and Soil Science. Bailey was not able to attend the meeting, but she sent her greatest appreciation to Lamb County Electric Cooperative for a great opportunity to represent LCEC as a Youth Tour delegate. Meeting other delegates from across Texas and experiencing all our history in Washington D.C.

The Cooperative also awarded scholarships to five member recipients: The scholarship winners were: Teagan Millerdaughter of Russell and Tysha Miller, graduate of Littlefield High School, Garicyn Bigham- daughter of Gary and Missy Bigham, graduate of Sudan High School, Ethan Parkinsonson of Monty and Robyn Parkinson, graduate of Levelland High School, Ethan Kauffman- son of Sean and Gina Kauffman, graduate of Whiteface High School, and Analise Ramage- daughter of Michael and Stacie Ramage, graduate of Olton High School.

Two Board members, from voting District 5, Cole Garner, and District 6, Doug Criswell, whose terms are expiring at the next annual meeting, were presented to the board for nomination by two members of their respective district board members and were approved by majority vote of the board.

The 87th Annual Meeting of the Lamb County Electric Cooperative was then adjourned.
