The theme for the successful summer reading program at the Lamb County Library this year is “Tails and Tales”.

Library technician, Selena Sanchez reported that 101 young people enrolled in the program, which runs each Wednesday through the month of June. It is an annual program provided by the Lamb County Library.

Children learn how to use a library, they learn how to check out books, and most important, they learn the value of reading. The kids had a competition to complete books in a reading block.

Each program features a guest story teller who volunteers to read a story to the children. They also have special guest presentations.

Snacks are provided for each day.

On June 2nd, Kelli DeLoach was the volunteer story teller, and Walter’s World of Pets was the special guest presenter. Walter’s World of Pets brought a baby monkey, a parrot, a snake, a turtle, and a baby crocodile.

On June 9th, Vicki Surrett read the story, and the children enjoyed a presentation by the Science Spectrum. The Science Spectrum brought assorted insects, worms and snakes.

On June 16th, Lisa Kelly was the story presenter, and the children were taught about fire prevention and safety by none other than Smokey the Bear. The Littlefield Fire Dept. also came to teach the children about fighting fires and fire safety. They also got a chance to learn how to handle a demonstration fire hose. Fire prevention and safety books were provided for the children.

There are only two more programs left this summer. Wednesday, June 23rd the program will take place from 9:30 until 11:30 in the morning instead of in the afternoon. The story time guest presenter will be Toni Meredith. The special guest presenter will be Rob the Magical Balloon Guy.

The End of Program Party will be held Wednesday, June 30th from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Our Place Center, located in Laguna Park, instead of the Lamb County Library. The special guest presenter will be Southwest Dairy.

At the end of program party, they will award prizes for the reading competitions. There will be a popcorn station and snow cones. They will be serving hamburgers and hot dogs along with sodas and water.
