Littefield’s City Council conducted a five-minute Special Business meeting Tuesday evening, Nov. 10, when the details involved with the swearing-in of the newlyelected District 1 Council Member, Eric Saenz, were approved.

Saenz will fill a two-year term, ending in May, 2022 for District 1.

The incumbent Council Member Ben Warrren turned in his letter of resignation at 5:50 p.m., so he could video the meeting as a “citizen.”

A full council was present for the meeting: Eric Turpen, Mayor; Michael Rangel, Mayor Pro tempore, District 2; Eric Saenz, District 1(6:03 p.m.); Buddy Holmes, District 3; and Kenny Rucker, District 4.

Others present were the City Manager, Mitch Grant; City Secretary, Janine Butler; Treasurer, Andrew Eisenwine; and seven in the audience (3 of them staff).

Mayor Eric Turpen called the meeting to order at 6 p.m., then gave the invocation; and led the Pledge of Allegiance to the U.S. Flag.

He then asked if there was anhone who wanted to speak about any agenda item. No one requested to make comment on any of the agenda items.

The council then canvassed the votes of the Nov. 3, 2020 General Election, and approved the results of 68 total votes (55%), for Eric Saenz; 28 total votes (23%), for Robert G Nichols; and 27 total votes (22%), for Ben Warren.

The council declared the results of the Nov. 3 election, that the returns were duly and legally made, and that there were 43 valid and legal votes on election day, and 80 votes cast during early voting (a total of 123 votes for 100% of voting; and that each of the candidates in the election received the votes counted.

Mayor Pro tempore Michael Rangel made the motion, and Kenny Rucker seconded the motion, to approve the resolution canvassing the votes from Nov. 3 election, and the motion passed unanimously.

After being sworn, Saenz was presented his Certificate of Election and Oath of Office for the newly-elected council member of District 1.

For Agenda item 7, to consider the approval of the Notice of Intent to sell Real Property and Invitation to Submit Proposal for the sale of real property on which the Texas Civil Commitment Center—Bill Clayton Facility, is located, including all buildings, improvements and personal property, for economic development purposes.

No action was taken, since the city had not heard from a proposal.

Mayor Turpen adjourned the meeting at 6:05 p.m.
