Commissioners meet in regular session

The Commissioners Court of Lamb County met in regular session on Monday to discuss a nineitem agenda.

County Judge James DeLoach called the meeting to order at 12 p.m. and gave the invocation before leading the United States and Texas Pledge ofAllegiance.

There was nobody present for Public Comment and the Commissioners next went over the Consent Agenda Items, which included:

the minutes from the regular meeting on Feb. 8, 2021 were approved as presented. There were no line-item transfers made to the budget and Gina Jones, County Auditor, asked the Commissioners to approve the budget adjustments as presented.

Jones requested that the Commissioners approve bills totaling $715,890.57; Jerry Yarbrough, County Treasurer presented the payroll and the departmental reports were given to each commissiner in a packet.

Yarbrough presented the fourth quarter report for 2020, saying, “The ending balance for December 31, 2020 is $16,100,604.23. We’re totally pledged for all of that amount. The interest earning was $27,199.78.”

Cynthia Bussey talked about the donation to Lamb County Emergency Management, saying, “Back about a month ago McCardy Funeral Home needed some masks, so he came and got some from us and turned around and made a donation to the County for his appreciation of them.”

Judge DeLoach added, “He wanted to pay us for them, but since they didn’t cost us antyhing — we got them from the state — he just made a donation. We will use the donation for something that has to do with COVID in the future.”

The motion to approve the consent agenda items was made by Commissioner Danny Short and seconded by Commissioner Cory DeBerry. The motion carried.

Yarbrough talked about Lamb County’s 2021 ACA Reporting & Tracking Service (ARTS) Program Renewal, saying, “Every year since we started the new Obamacare, we have to send in every single payroll, we have to send in four spread sheets, and they charge us $1.50 per one, but that is tracking it, the forms, the postage and everything.”

The motion to approve Lamb County’s 2021 ACA Reporting & Tracking Service (ARTS) Program Renewal was made by Commissioner Lee Logan and seconded by Commissioner Short.

The motion carried.

Lamb County Sheriff Gary Maddox, presented the Racial Profiling report for the Lamb County Sheriff’s Office, saying, “Since January 2002 the Lamb County Sheriff’s Office in accordance with the Texas Racial Profiling Laws have been collecting police contact data for the purpose of identifying and responding if neccesary to concerns regarding racial profiling practices. It is my hope that the findings provided in this report will show that the Lamb County Sheriff’s Office continues to strive towards the goal of maintaining a strong relationship with the community.”

Sheriff Maddox proceeded to go over the numbers from their report and the motion to approve the report on Racial Profiling for the Sheriff’s Office was made by Commissioner Kent Lewis and seconded by Commissioner Short.

The motion carried.

No action was taken at the Burn Ban and future agenda items were discussed before the meeting was adjourned at 10:44 a.m.
