Commissioners hear procedures for or LHC construction, reno enovation

During their regular meeting Monday morning, Aug. 23, 2021, Lamb County Commissioners heard a report from Grant Koertner, AIA, Principal Architect President for Condray Design Group.

He distributed the drawings the company has made, regarding the Lamb Healthcare Center’s proposed upcoming construction and renovation projects, that will make the hospital better able to isolate and control infection for its patients. The designs incorporate new

The designs incorporate new isolation rooms, with better entrance and exiting location, that does not require the severely ill patients to travel down long hallways, in order to be isolated.

He also stated that the lab needs to be expanded, by moving the medical lab records to allow the room for expansion.

There is also a need to bring the Emergency Room up to date, and separate the entrances to the Emergency Room and the Isolation area.

He said they plan to begin advertising next week to get proposals on the bidding process.

Cindy Klein reviewed the financials for Lamb Healthcare Center, LHC Family Medicine Clinic in Littlefield, and the Olton Rural Health Clinic.

She explained that the hospital is doing the best it can to take care of the patients, since if has a lack of staffing of nurses, to care of the patients—this time the Delta Variant virus.

She reported that the hospital has received new patient monitors that can be read by the nurse in the hallway, rather than having to go into the room with a viral-infected patient.

They also have new IV pumps that can be operated from outside the patients’ rooms.

Business meeting opened

Lamb County Judge James M. DeLoach called the meeting to order, and led the pledges to the U.S. and Texas flags.

First on the agenda, there was no one who made a comment about any of the agenda items, so the consent agenda items were considered.

The minutes of the Aug. 16, 2021, meeting appeared to be in order for approval.

There were no budget and salary amendments and/or line-item transfers to be made.

Bills presented by the County Auditor for payment were $38,347.22 for Lamb County; and $873,627.04 for Lamb Healthcare Center; for a total of $911.974.26.

Payrolls presented by the Lamb County Treasurer were for Lamb County payroll ending Aug. 13, 2021 in the amount of $153,815.43; and Lamb Healthcare Center payroll ending Aug. 14. 2021, in the amount of $167,556.35.

The departmental reports that were received were considered to be appropriate for approval.

Commissioner Danny Short made the motion, which was seconded by Commissioner Lee Logan, that the consent agenda items be approved, and the vote was unanimous.
