Commissioners handle long agenda

Monday morning, Aug. 24, 2020, Lamb County Commissioners took care of business that was included on a 10-item agenda.

Lamb County Judge James M. DeLoach called the meeting to order at 10 a.m.

Following the invocation by Leader-News Editor Joella Lovvorn, Judge DeLoach led the pledges to the U.S. and Texas flags, then opened the public comment section concerning any comments on any of the agenda items.

There was no one who made a comment, so the session was opened for consideration of the consent agenda items.

a) Minutes of the Aug. 10 and Aug. 17 meetings were approved as presented.

b) There were no budget and salary amendments, and/or lineitem transfers to be considered.

c) Bills presented by the County Auditor to be paid, included: $40,837.31 for Lamb County; and $447,860.42 from Lamb Healthcare Center’s account.

d) Payrolls presented by the County Treasurer to be paid, included; $145,005.56 for Lamb County; and $165,278.54 from Lamb Healthcare Center’s account.

e) The Departmental reports that were received were approved with all of the other consent agenda items.

4. Commissioners approvedb setting the CDRS (County and District Retirement System) Rate at 14.03% which is already in the new budget. County Auditor Gina Jones presented the information on the rate.

D. A public hearing was opened, and conducted for the District and County Clerk Archive Plans and Fees. Both clerks advised what they will be implementing on Oct. 3, 2020. gan made the motion and Cory DeBerry seconded the motion to approve the plans and fees. The vote was unanimous.

7. Commissioners approved the Notice of General Election that is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 3. 2020.

The place for Early Voting on Oct. 13 thru 30, is still to be determined.

Election Day polling places:

Voting Precincts 1 and 5 will cast their ballots at the Olton Lions Club Community Center, 406 Second Street in Olton.

Voters in Voting Precinct 3 will cast ballots in the Earth Community Center, First and Birch Streets in Earth.

Precincts 4 and 11 voters will cast their ballots in the Sudan Community Center, 109 East First Avenue in Sudan.

Voters in Voting Precincts 2, 6, 7, 8 and 9 will be voting in the Lamb County Ag and Community Center, 1095 East 17th Street (17th Street and Hall Avenue) in Littlefield.

Voting Precinct 10 voters will be voting at Amherst City Hall, 1011 Main Street in Amherst.

Voters in Voting Precinct 12 will cast their ballots in the Springlake First Baptist Church’s Youth Building, 213 US Highway 70, in Springlake.

8. Future Agenda Items: Cindy Klein, CEO of Lamb Healthcare Center, advised the commissioners that representatives from a Lubbock business is coming to the hospital to give iteas on re-working the rooms to separate inpatients from outpationts, provide more isolation rooms, and possibly the addition of some offices.

She also said that by Sept. 1, the Clinic and Hospital plan to have the supplies and equipment to begin COVID testing.

9. Budget hearing: Sheriff Gary Maddox reported there are not many changes from the current budget, on his new budget.

He reported they have finally sent six convicts to state prison, but still have five in the Lamb County Jail, from the local Bill Clayton facility.

He noted that Lamb County Jail’s jailers and trustees are being tested continuously for the detection of the COVID virus.

He also reported that the jail’s electric security system is down, and keys are having to be used to unlock the system. A new security system is being installed.

Food costs are also up, and they must meet state requirements for the food quality.

10. An Executive Session was opened, pursuant to Government Code 551.074, to discuss personnel matters.
