Commissioners canvass Nov. 3 election votes

Lamb County Commussioners conducted a special meeting Tuesday morning, Nov. 17, 2020 when they canvassed the Nov. 3 election votes.

They met in their meeting room of the Lamb County Courthouse, when they also took care of seven items of business on their agenda.

Lamb County Judge James M. DeLoach called the meeting to order, then offered the invocation and led the pledges to the U.S. and Texas flags.

There was no one who wished to make a public comment about anything on the agenda.

Lamb County Treasurer, Jerry Yarbrough presented the payrolls to be considered for approval: They are: $150,725.13 for Lamb County, and $178,903.48 from Lamb Healthcare Center’s account.

Commissioners unanimously approved the payment ofpayrolls. County Auditor Gina Jones presented the bills for the County and Lamb HealthCare Center.

For Lamb County: $133,449.84 and for the hospital: $360,659.29, for a total of $494,109.13, which was approved unanimously by the commissioners.

Next, Commissioners approved an Interlocal Agreement with the Regional Public Defender Office of Local Government Corporation. The agreement is the stame as it has been for past years, and the agreement was approved unanimously.

Two bids were received for seal coating in Precinct 4. The low bid of $47,647.44 from Bermea of Friona was approved unanimously. The other bid was $48,984.32.

Last on the agenda for the day, was the canvass of the 2020 Nov. 3 Genral Election votes.

Ricky Yantis, who has served as an official in the Central Counting Station in the Curthouse for several years, discussed the results of the election.

He was highly complimentary of the new voting equipment: “The new counter really made life a whole lot better,” he said, because everything went well.

He recommended: “We need to have mandatory training for poll workers on election etiquette and procedures, which would create consistency for our elections.”

He mentioned that this was his last time to work during the final vote counting of an election, and recommeded that the county keep using the electronic counting equipment.

Commissioners unanimously approved the canvass of the votes, following a motion by Kent Lewis, and second of the motion by Danny Short, to approve the canvass.

Judge DeLoach expressed his appreciation to Ricky Yantis and all the others who have worked so diligently getting the final election vote counts through the years. “We appreciate you so very much,” Judge DeLoach said, as he continued to offer his ‘thankyous’ for their service.

Before adjourning, Judge DeLoach advised that the Courthouse will be closed Thanksgiving Thursday, Nov. 26, and Friday, Nov. 27, for the Thanksgiving holiday.

The meeting adjourned at 10:27 am
