City issues proposal to sell Bill Clayton Facility

Littlefield’s City Council took action to sell TCCC-Bill Clayton Facility during a special meeting Monday night, following a two hour, eight-minute executive session.

Participating in the meeting were City Attorney Slater Elza, Mayor Eric Turpen, City Manager Mitch Grant, Mayor Pro tempore Kenny Rucker; other Council Members, Michael Rangel, Eric Saenz, and Buddy Holmes; and City Treasurer Andrew Eisenwine.

A special guest was Michael Bell, Vice President of Region III for Management & Training Corporation, who remained in the meeting room, out of the executive session.

Following the Call to Order at 6 p.m. by Mayor Eric Turpen, the invocation by Mayor Pro Tempore Kenny Rucker, and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, Mayor Turpen closed the open meeting session and opened the executive session for discussions at 6:02 p.m.

The executive session was held in accordance with Texas Gov’t Code Sec. 551.072 for deliberation regarding real property; and Sec. 551.071, for consultation with the City Attorney, and 551.087, for deliberation regarding Economic Development negotiations regarding the Texas Civil Commitment Center — Bill Clayton Facility.

The executive session continued until the council took a 15-minute break at 7:25 before reconvening into the executive session at 7:40 p.m.

At 8:08 p.m., the council reconvened into an open session to act on matters discussed in the Executive Session.

Mayor Pro tempore Kenny Rucker made the motion to authorize the City Manager to issue a proposal for the potential sale of real property, on which the Texas Civil Commitment Center — Bill Clayton Facility is located, including all buildings, improvements, and personal property, for economic development purposes.

The motion was seconded by Buddy Holmes, and the motion passed unanimously by the City Council.

Mayor Eric Turpen adjourned the meeting at 8:10 p.m.
