40th Panhandle Parade of Breeds set for June 16, 17

The 40th Panhandle Parade of Breeds junior heifer and steer show will be held June 16th , 17th and 18th at the Ollie Liner Center, Plainview, Texas.

The barn opens at 12 noon Thursday for arrival of heifers and steers. All Mini breeds must be checked in on Thursday. Showmanship entries close at 6 p.m. Thursday. Steer weight cards turned in and steers classified and heifers check in between 5 and 8 p.m.

An exhibitor dance will be held between 8:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.

The barns open at 5 a.m. Friday, June 17th . Steer weight cardsturned in and steers classified between 7:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. The Mini-Hereford show begins at 9 a.m. followed by the showmanship contest.

Junior, intermediate and senior age levels will be held for heifer exhibitors in Ring B and steer exhibitors in Ring A. 30 minutes after the conclusion of the showmanship contest, the Progress Steer Show will begin. Progress steers weigh 876 pounds or above.

At 3 p.m. a special proclamation commemorating the 40th anniversary of the show will be presented by City of Plainview Mayor Charles Starnes. The Gebo Supreme Champion Heifer Show will follow the Progress Steer Show.

Judging of prospect steers those weighing 875 pounds and less, begins at 8 a.m., Saturday, June 18 th . American breeds will be judged first, followed by the English breeds, Continental breeds and crosses.

A short break will be taken following the judging of the Shorthorn steers to read the history of the show and to introduce past officers and directors. The show will continue with the Limousin steers.

Judges for the steer and heifer show will be Parker Henley, Stillwater, Oklahoma and Chad Coburn, Sterling City, Texas.
