WILDCATS SHUTOUT KERMIT, 17-0 IN GAME 1

The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity baseball team shutout the Kermit Yellowjackets, 17-0, in game one of their Class 3A Bidistrict Play-off series at Seminole on Friday, behind a complete game from senior, Chris Brown, on the mound.

The Game was scoreless until the top of the third inning when Jordan Trevino led things off with a walk. Blake Green hit into a fielder’s choice to Mikial Burrola at third base, but a bad throw to second, put runners on the corners for the Wildcats with no outs. Ethan Hackler followed it up with a two-RBI single to left-center field to put Littlefield up, 2-0.

The offense would come to a standstill, as Brown popped up to Auden Gonzalez on the mound, Ethan Garcia popped up to Joel Garcia at shortstop and Hackler was picked off at first by the catcher, Ramon Davila to retire the side.

Yosmar Asevedo singled to right-center field to lead off the home half of the third inning for Kermit, but Brown got Josh Nunez looking for out number one. Burrola singled up the middle, but Jay Lara laid down a bunt that was fielded by Davin Saldana and thrown to first for out number two and Gonzalez hit a chopper over Brown, that was fielded by Trevino and thrown to first for the out to end the inning.

Both teams were kept quiet until the top of the sixth inning, when the Wildcat’s offense erupted. Brown led off with a solo homerun to left-center field to make the score, 3-0, and Ethan Garcia followed it up with a single to right field. Ethan Garcia took second on a past ball and Jonovan Weaver singled to center field, moving Garcia over to third to put runners on the corners for Littlefield.

Saldana hit an RBI-single down the third-base line to make the score, 4-0, as Nunez relieved Gonzalez on the mound for Kermit.

Heffington singled through the left side to load the bases and Jaron Cabello walked in a run to make the score, 5-0. Trevino roped a three-RBI triple over Lara in center field to extend their lead to, 8-0, and Green walked to put runners on the corners for the Wildcats. Green took second on the pitcher, before Hackler popped up to Joel Garcia at shortstop for out number one. Brown hit a chopper to third, but a high throw to first put him on as Trevino scored on a delayed steal and Green advanced to third with the score now, 9-0.

Brown took second on a pitch, before Ethan Garcia struck out looking for out number two, but Weaver drew a walk to load the bases. Saldana hit a two-RBI double to left field, stretching the lead to, 11-0. Heffington drew a walk to load the bases and Cabello walked in another run to push the lead to, 12-0, as Eliseo Bonilla relieved Nunez on the mound.

Trevino hit a three-RBI double to left-center field to push the lead to, 15-0 and Green and Hackler followed it up with backto-back RBI singles to extend their lead to, 17-0. Brown was hit by a pitch and Garcia drew a walk to load the bases, but Weaver popped up to Gonzalez at shortstop to end the rally for Littlefield.

Brown got the Yellowjackets to go three-up-and-three-down in the bottom of the sixth, as the Wildcats run ruled Kermit, 17-0, in game one of their play-off series.

Brown pitched a complete game for the Wildcats, giving up no walks and no runs, while earning eight strikeouts.
