The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity basketball team fell on the road to the Floydada Whirlwinds on Tuesday, 61-50.
With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 4-3 overall on the season.
Floydada took an early, 12-7, lead in the opening frame, but the Wildcats were able to cut the lead to four points, 28-21, heading into the locker room at halftime.
In the second half, the Whirlwinds erupted for 23 points in the third quarter, stretching their lead to, 51-33. Littlefield poured in 17 points in the fmal quarter, but it was not enough, as their comeback efforts fell short, 61-50.
The Wildcats were led in scoring by senior forward, Tyree Jones, who netted 21 points. Seniors, Chris Brown and Jeremiah Salazar each finished with nine points, while seniors, Juan Rios and Joseph Salinas along with junior, Jordan Trevino each tallied three points.
Junior, Jaron Cabello, added two points in the contest.
The Wildcats hosted the Springlake-Earth Wolverines on Friday and traveled to New Home on Saturday to take on the Leopards. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Tuesday with a road game against Slaton.
Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m.
