The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity baseball team hosted Estacado for a non-district match-up on Tuesday, as they fell to the Matadors, 15-10.
With the loss, the Wildcats fall to, 6-6 overall on the year.
It was a tight game early-on, as both teams scratched three runs across in the first inning. The Matadors added three runs in the top of the second inning, taking a, 6-3, lead to the fourth inning.
Both teams added a run in the fourth inning to make the score, 74, but Estacado erupted for eight runs in the fifth inning, pushing their lead to, 15-4. Littlefield answered with, five runs in the bottom of the fifth and one run in the bottom of the sixth, but came up short, 15-10.
The Wildcats totaled nine hits as a team, led by senior, Brenden Bowman, who tallied four RBI’s, two hits for two doubles. Junior, Chip Green, tallied two RBI’s and two hits including a double, while senior, Markus Rosales, tallied one RBI, one hit and one walk.
Junior, Ian Mendez, drew two walks in the contest.
On the mound, Major McNeese threw three innings for the Wildcats, giving up 10 hits, one walk and six runs, while earning three strikeouts. Green threw three innings, giving up five hits, two walks and six runs, one earned, while earning one strikeout. Gabriel Villanueva threw one inning giving up two hit, one walk and three runs.
The Wildcats hosted the Snyder Tigers on Friday. Results were not available at press time. They will open district play on Tuesday at home against Brownfield.
First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
